More than 500 Colorado workers, including 45 in Pueblo, are set to be laid off in June as a result of a planned asset acquisition between two beverage distribution companies. However, Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, which is acquiring Eagle Rock Distributing Co.'s Colorado operations, intends to retain employees and continue operations. "The reports suggesting widespread job losses or closures are not reflective of our plans," said Amy Kickham, chief human resources officer for Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits. The WARN noted that Eagle Rock would shut down its facilities in Monument, Grand Junction, Loveland, Pueblo, Denver, Commerce City, and Durango, affecting 514 employees. What to know about the acquisition. In a March 23 news release, Southern Glazer's announced it had reached an agreement to acquire all of the assets of Eagle Rock Distributing Co.'s Colorado operations. The release stated that the acquisition "presents a powerful opportunity to distribute Anheuser-Busch's full product portfolio currently sold in Colorado," including beer brands like Michelob ULTRA, Busch Light, Budweiser, and Bud Light, "along with Tilray Brands, Sazerac Company, and a range of brands from additional suppliers." "This acquisition enables Southern Glazer's to significantly expand its total beverage distribution in Colorado by adding high profile brands to our portfolio that strategically align with our total beverage strategy," said Wayne E. Chaplin, president and CEO of Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits. "Eagle Rock has built a strong business in Colorado with a highly respected team and valued supplier partnerships. By bringing our organizations together, we can expand opportunities for suppliers and provide even greater choice and service for customers." Southern Glazer's plans to continue operations out of its existing facilities and distribute the Eagle Rock portfolio across the Colorado markets currently serviced by the operation.
