It invests across many sectors, including AI, fintech, biotech, crypto, enterprise, consumer, games, and infrastructure, and it supports companies from seed stages through to IPOs. The firm’s product is capital in the form of equity stakes in startups, along with guidance, networks, and operational support to help these companies scale. Unlike many investors who focus on a single niche, a16z combines a very large capital base (about $43 billion in committed capital) with a broad portfolio and a long-term, hands-on approach to backing entrepreneurs, aiming to grow companies that can become industry leaders while delivering strong returns for its investors.

TENEX.AI Raises $27M Series A to Lead the AI-Native Security Operations Era. Crosspoint Capital Partners Leads Round with Andreessen Horowitz And Shield
AI chip startup DensityAI has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in a funding round valuing the company at $10 billion, according to The Information. Andreessen Horowitz is reportedly in talks to lead the round. The company was founded in 2025 by former Tesla Dojo chip program leaders Ganesh Venkataramanan, Bill Chang, and Ben Floering. Around 20 employees left Tesla for DensityAI after Elon Musk dissolved the Dojo team in August 2025. DensityAI plans to develop data centre chips using 3D DRAM stacking to improve speed and energy efficiency. The report suggests the startup has secured a conditional purchase agreement with AWS, though Amazon declined to comment. Previous investors include Dolby Family Ventures, South Park Commons, and Firestreak Ventures.
OpenEvidence has raised $250 million at a $15 billion valuation, led by a16z and Byers Capital, marking a notable shift from its previous trajectory. The company had floated a $20 billion valuation in July but settled lower in September. The funding announcement coincided with news that OpenEvidence is pivoting into drug development. CEO Daniel Nadler told Forbes the company plans to develop oncology therapies, with its first drug entering clinical trials before year-end and three to five additional candidates next year, focusing on rare cancers. The company also announced a partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering, integrating its platform into MSK's Epic workflows and distributing MSK's OncoKB database to clinicians. Competition is intensifying, with Doximity reporting AI search queries up 25% quarter-over-quarter.
Andreessen Horowitz has launched the Horowitz Andreessen Academy, a tuition-free school in San Francisco for recent high school graduates interested in building AI technology products and companies. The programme will accept roughly 50 students for its first class beginning in autumn 2027. The academy has raised $42 million, led by Andreessen Horowitz. The one-year programme combines self-directed projects, courses taught by tech founders, and work rotations at partner companies including Anthropic, Google, Meta, Nvidia, and OpenAI. Students will receive over $50,000 in compute credits and a $5,000 travel budget. The programme is not accredited and students will not earn a degree. The academy plans to launch a two-year programme in autumn 2028 that will charge tuition comparable to elite private universities.
Former researchers from leading AI labs have launched Mirendil, raising $200 million in seed funding at a $1 billion valuation. Andreessen Horowitz and Kleiner Perkins led the round, with Nvidia also participating. The startup builds AI systems that can improve themselves with minimal human intervention, potentially accelerating discoveries in medicine and materials science. The founders left Anthropic to pursue broader access to advanced AI tools. The 20-person team includes talent from Google and xAI. Mirendil has already secured a major Google Cloud partnership for infrastructure support. The platform aims to enable scientists outside large corporations to create custom models for specific research problems. The high seed-stage valuation reflects investor confidence in democratising AI research capabilities beyond giant laboratories.
