Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior related experience as a Monitor Technician and successful completion of an ECG competency assessment are required.
  • Must have already passed an ECG course.
  • BLS/Health Care Provider certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and review patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm.
  • Demonstrate competency in telemetry lead placement for accurate cardiac rhythm analysis.
  • Analyze cardiac rhythm and record measurements, calculations, and interpretation of the patient record every six hours and as needed, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Notify the Registered Nurse of cardiac rhythm or rhythm component changes and follow the current escalation protocol.
  • Notify the Registered Nurse if a patient is off monitor and follow the current escalation protocol.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the technical operation of the central monitoring station.
  • Maintain and check high and low alarm settings on every telemetry patient each shift.
  • Give and accept shift reports to provide current patient information.
  • Work with assigned nursing personnel to coordinate initiation and discontinuation of telemetry.
  • Identify and troubleshoot routine technical problems with the central monitoring system and initiate biomedical repairs as necessary.
  • Advance current knowledge of cardiac rhythm analysis and interpretation.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and sensitive data at all times.
  • Maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Comply with Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Safeguard electronic equipment by keeping liquids away from computers, telemetry monitors, and phones.
  • Maintain a physical environment conducive to continuous telemetry monitoring, including noise reduction and minimal foot traffic.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and courteously, identify oneself, and respond to requests.
  • Remain calm and helpful during stressful situations.
  • Attend staff meetings and meet mandatory education requirements.
  • Demonstrate commitment to service, organizational values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor.
  • Support and participate in planned changes.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities as assigned.
  • Use time and resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of Monitor Technician experience with prior related experience is highly preferred.

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County.
