Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate 1 is preferred.
  • Zero to one year of related work experience is required.
  • Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, is required.
  • Ability to read and write English to understand basic safety instructions, take direction, communicate with patients, families, and medical center staff, and respond to basic questions.
  • Ability to understand spoken English to follow basic safety instructions, take direction, and communicate with patients, families, and medical center staff in response to routine questions.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures and apply them in routine situations.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with employees, professional staff, and external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information, or deliver services.
  • Ability to provide customer service using active listening and problem-solving skills and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to perform light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, stand for periods of time, and move throughout the hospital campus.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors courteously while maintaining service, respect, and privacy.
  • Serve as a central communication source in patient care by being responsive, accessible, and visible; provide accurate information, directions, or guidance and follow up promptly.
  • Perform check-in, registration, appointment scheduling, demographic and fiscal-data verification, and copayment processing using a computer system.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments while accommodating patient and provider needs.
  • Obtain and enter referrals.
  • Perform checkout, schedule necessary follow-up appointments, provide relevant educational materials, enter visit tickets, and prepare medical records as required by the practice.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming reception area and keep signage and displayed information clear.
  • Monitor audio or visual programming and volume levels to maintain a calming reception environment.
  • Contact appropriate departments when repairs or services are needed and follow through on those tasks.
  • Monitor and support patients and visitors entering and leaving the practice.
  • Facilitate timely patient flow and proactively resolve flow issues, including early or late patients and late providers.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and practice staff, and between patients and other areas, to support optimal flow and service delivery.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
