Requirements
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree and seven years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships and influencing outcomes.

  • A robust financial and administrative background.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the strategic administrative partner to organizational leadership and the chief financial steward for the Yale Peabody Museum and the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.
  • Direct, plan, and manage comprehensive business affairs, including budgets, long-term financial planning, program development, information systems, human resources, staff training and development, and regulatory compliance.
  • Work with organizational leaders, faculty, staff, students, and service providers to develop and implement organizational strategy.
  • Monitor external and internal factors influencing organizational mission and goals and plan required financial and non-financial resources.
  • Support leaders in conceptualizing, prioritizing, and planning new programs or program changes.
  • Drive the organizational strategic-planning process with key faculty and staff when necessary.
  • Connect the organizations and the University through communication, priority alignment, initiative implementation, and engagement in administrative priorities.
  • Represent organizational needs, challenges, and opportunities at the University level and share knowledge and best practices.
  • Provide comprehensive financial information, analysis, and advice to optimize financial resources.
  • Create and update long-range financial plans and identify, advise on, and efficiently deploy available financial resources.
  • Prepare all-funds budgets, analyze financial performance against budget, and make adjustments and take action as needed.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls supporting appropriate resource use, accurate financial information, contractual compliance, policy adherence, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify, communicate, address, and escalate risks to protect organizational and University assets, resources, information, and reputation.
  • Ensure faculty and staff understand applicable regulations and Yale requirements.
  • Ensure effective practices for retaining, attracting, and developing talent in line with University guidelines and contractual agreements.
  • Ensure staff participate in University performance-management and career-development processes.
  • Assess current and future talent needs, address issues, facilitate talent movement where appropriate, and develop Business Operations staff.
  • Cultivate diversity of backgrounds and perspectives in the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with School and University human-resources policies and procedures.
  • Ensure efficient and effective administrative and financial services for the organizations.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery of services from external providers, including human resources, information technology, procurement, student services, post-doctoral affairs, and faculty affairs.
  • Establish, monitor, and meet or exceed operational-excellence targets.
  • Identify and implement continuous process improvements.
  • Build and manage a high-performance team of administrative and financial professionals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with University financial and administrative systems such as Workday and YBT, and knowledge of relevant processes and policies.
  • Experience in higher-education administration interacting with faculty, staff, and other departments, or in museum or nonprofit administration.
  • Experience with restricted endowments and gifts.
  • Experience with sponsored awards and financial gift management.
  • Experience with international operations.
  • A master's degree in business administration and leadership experience in a university or museum environment.
