Requirements
  • Must be qualified by education and experience in the care of the perioperative patient.
  • Must have at least five years of current experience as a perioperative registered nurse in the post-anesthesia care unit and/or the pre-operative area in an acute care hospital.
  • Must demonstrate competence in formulating individual perioperative treatment plans and providing skilled pre- and post-operative care.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to direct, monitor, and evaluate nursing care provided by nursing staff.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Must pass orientation and the initial competency assessment before independently assigning patients requiring the applicable skill and must complete and pass all annual competencies.
  • A California registered nurse license is required.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification must be obtained before completing orientation and independently assigning patients.
  • CPAN or CAPA certification is required within 18 months of the start date.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director of Surgical Services on planning, goal setting, department budget development, and coordination of supplies, equipment, staffing, and patient care in support of the strategic plan.
  • Supervise the department's daily operations and serve as a resource and role model for staff in resolving patient-care, service-delivery, safety, supply, equipment, computer-software, and customer concerns.
  • Ensure staff receive appropriate orientation and training and demonstrate competence for the care and services provided.
  • Ensure staff adhere to organizational values and standards for professional conduct.
  • Provide supportive training, coaching, staff development, performance evaluation, policy and procedure enforcement, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Support quality-performance initiatives by ensuring regulatory compliance, collecting and analyzing quality and performance-improvement data, assisting with future performance-improvement targets and quality initiatives, and developing or revising department policies and procedures.
  • Support financial viability by monitoring expenses, revenue, utilization, and productivity in assigned cost centers and executing Lean concepts.
  • Work with internal and external department managers on day-to-day system efficiencies and effectiveness as a member of the Nursing Leadership Team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous Charge RN or related management experience is preferred.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • CPAN or CAPA certification is preferred upon hire.
