About the job

Requirements
  • Eight or more years of product management experience, including taking products from zero to one and scaling them, and experience with platform-level products.
  • Experience defining product architecture across multiple products that share a platform and making decisions that preserve platform coherence.
  • Strong technical fluency in APIs, data systems, and system design, with the ability to discuss architecture and machine-learning workflows in depth with engineers.
  • Strong UX product thinking, including shipped user flows for non-technical users.
  • Experience working at the intersection of hardware, software, and operations.
  • A record of owning ambiguous problems end to end with little direction.
  • Clear writing, concise documentation, and strong meeting facilitation.
  • Daily use of AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar for product research, specifications, prototypes, or analysis.
Responsibilities
  • Own product architecture across the suite, including how gate automation, yard tracking, the customer portal, and integrations share data, workflows, and platform components.
  • Lead discovery through customer interviews, on-site observation at terminals, and rapid prototyping.
  • Translate customer problems into clear definitions of value, scope, and success criteria, with a dollar-based return on investment.
  • Sequence the roadmap so effort can produce revenue within the next few quarters while advancing the platform.
  • Work with engineering and machine-learning teams on architecture, APIs, data flows, and integration patterns.
  • Write specifications, acceptance criteria, and test plans with technical rigor.
  • Understand edge computing using NVIDIA Jetson, camera systems, optical character recognition and vision pipelines, multi-sensor workflows, and voice and large language model agents.
  • Maintain standards for reliability, accuracy, and performance in operational settings where a missed read can stop a truck.
  • Own the experience for drivers, guards, yard operators, and enterprise customers, from kiosk screens to the customer portal.
  • Produce annotated wireframes, flows, and user stories; prototype in code or with AI tools when more effective than a mockup.
  • Partner with product designers and engineers on a shared design system.
  • Keep complex operational workflows simple to use.
  • Coordinate across engineering, systems engineering, implementation, field operations, business intelligence and data, sales, and support.
  • Translate contract requirements and customer commitments into internal plans, and challenge commitments that are not viable.
  • Run handoffs between product, deployment, and support.
  • Serve as product lead in customer conversations with enterprise carriers and shippers.
  • Run roadmap planning and sprint prioritization with engineering leads.
  • Manage trade-offs across cost, timeline, accuracy, and scope.
  • Set and report key performance indicators for automation rate, detection accuracy, throughput, and uptime.
  • Track rollout results and drive iteration.
  • Act as a thought partner to the chief technology officer on strategy, sequencing, and prioritization.
  • Write product requirement FAQs, specifications, and memos that people can act on.
  • Help build the product management practice, including how AI is used across the product workflow.
  • Embody Outpost's values and leadership principles.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with vision systems, edge computing, or industrial and Internet of Things products.
  • Experience in freight, logistics, or transportation.
  • Experience with enterprise integrations, including SFTP, REST APIs, SSO, EDI, transportation management systems, yard management systems, or electronic logging device systems.
  • Experience with voice AI or large language model agent products.
  • Comfort working on-site around trucks, gates, and industrial yards.

About the company

Outpost runs a network of secure, managed parking yards for semi-trucks, acquiring and operating its own real estate to provide standardized facilities with features like fencing, lighting, cameras, and controlled gate access. Its platform lets fleet managers search, book, and manage parking, while drivers gain secure access; a brokerage arm also arranges parking at partner yards. The system uses proprietary hardware, IoT devices, and AI-powered computer vision to track truck and trailer inventory and verify vehicles at entry and exit. The goal is to create a scalable nationwide logistics infrastructure that improves asset utilization, expands geographic reach, and gives trucking operations easy access to secure parking.

  • If freight softens, Outpost's expensive land bank and terminals face an existential occupancy crunch.

What makes Outpost unique

  • Outpost owns and automates terminals, not just listings, creating standardized fleet-yard product.
  • March 19, 2026 expansion added Newark and Miami, entering Northeast freight corridors.
  • Its second-gen kiosk processed 3 million gate events and cuts gate labor 70%.

Outpost launches second-gen gate automation platform cutting costs by 70% across 50 new US sites

Outpost, a US truck terminal owner and automation company, has launched its second-generation gate automation platform featuring a new kiosk, enhanced machine vision capabilities and improved operational tools. The technology now processes over 3 million gate events annually across Outpost's network and customer sites. The new kiosk can be installed in one day and reduces gate operating costs by up to 70%, replacing manual staffing that typically costs $25,000 or more per gate monthly. Key features include engine-cancelling microphones, integrated multilingual displays, reefer monitor recognition, multi-camera vehicle tracking and advanced seal verification. The platform serves major truckload operators, intermodal companies, cold chain warehousing providers and manufacturers. Outpost has signed contracts for nearly 50 new locations in the first four months of 2026.

Outpost adds 5 US truck terminals to build universal infrastructure for 75% of freight

Outpost, an Austin-based operator of over 30 truck terminals and drop yards across the US, is expanding with five new locations and investing in EV charging infrastructure. The company announced new terminals in Newark, New Jersey, Miami, Florida and three California cities: Stockton, Livermore and Torrance. Co-founder and CEO Trent Cameron says Outpost addresses a unique trucking industry problem: whilst rail, air and port freight have universal infrastructure, trucking—which moves 75% of US goods—relies on fragmented facilities. The company's vertically integrated model combines real estate, parking and terminal technology to provide shared terminals near major markets for fleets of any size. Outpost also announced an investment in EV Realty, which develops commercial fleet EV charging hubs, and currently serves all major autonomous truck operators.

The additions are part of Outpost's $1 billion deployment to expand its national network of truck terminals. The company now operates over 30 facilities across the United States.
