Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required.
  • A valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the assigned subject and grade level is required.
  • Demonstrated competency in the assigned academic subject area is required.
  • Knowledge of the assigned academic subject and general curriculum and instruction is required.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior is required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • The role requires maintaining emotional control under stress and the physical ability to frequently stand, stoop, bend, pull, and push and move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that address the learning styles and needs of assigned students.
  • Assess student learning styles and use the results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to Individual Education Plans.
  • Work with staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities and sponsor activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Present information accurately and clearly using effective communication skills.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required physical and computerized reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
