Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school and complete a residency and/or fellowship in the area of specialty.
  • Have current or recent experience in the area of specialty.
  • Hold an MD or DO license issued by the state licensure board in the state of practice.
  • Be board certified or board eligible in the area of specialty by the appropriate medical board.
  • Obtain and maintain medical staff membership and appropriate privileges.
  • Be eligible for and maintain eligibility as a provider of Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
  • Meet all qualifications to participate in professional malpractice and other liability coverage.
  • Be able to meet the stated physical and sensory demands, including lifting and transporting patients and performing required standing, walking, bending, reaching, handling, and sensory tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Provide hospitalist coverage in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with 24-hour call shifts and approximately 7 to 8 shifts per month.
  • Provide care to obstetrics and gynecology patients.
  • Mentor obstetrics and gynecology residents and medical students and participate in departmental quality, safety, and research initiatives.
  • Perform history and physical examinations for patients seen and provide consultations when requested by other physicians.
  • Round on assigned patients and patients requested for evaluation, collaborating with an advanced practitioner as needed.
  • Provide cost-effective, high-quality care based on best-practice evidence-based medicine.
  • Make best efforts to follow standardized orders and practice guidelines approved by the medical staff.
  • Assess patients and provide treatment and communication appropriate to their age, growth, and development.
  • Communicate regularly, promptly, and appropriately with referring physicians, patients, and their families.
  • Educate patients and their families.
  • Participate in regular practice group meetings.
  • Keep medical records current and respond promptly to chart review and completion requests.
  • Submit timely and accurate billing information.
  • Supervise advanced practitioners.
  • Attend continuing medical education as appropriate to maintain Pennsylvania and New Jersey licensure.
  • Develop effective working relationships within the hospital and St. Luke’s University Health Network.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required within the area of specialty or service line.
