Requirements
  • Three years of certified Dental Hygienist experience.
  • A New York State license as a Dental Hygienist is legally required.
  • A high school graduate or equivalent qualification is required.
  • Computer literacy, especially with scheduling and medical records software, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and employees, interacting professionally, courteously, and appropriately.
  • Contribute to and participate in the assigned department's performance and quality improvement activities, including data collection and analysis; implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities; participation in Continuous Quality Improvement teams; and adherence to safety and security, incident and occurrence reporting, infection control, and patient and customer service policies and procedures.
  • Remove calculus and plaque from all tooth surfaces under the supervision of a dental attending.
  • Apply preventive materials to teeth, such as sealant and fluoride, under the supervision of a dental attending.
  • Teach patients oral hygiene strategies, including brushing, flossing, nutritional counseling, and smoking cessation, under the supervision of a dental attending.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs under the supervision of a dental attending.
  • Perform patient screening procedures, including assessing oral health conditions, reviewing health history, conducting oral cancer screening, inspecting the head and neck, and taking blood pressure and pulse, under the supervision of a dental attending.
  • Use hospital and dental electronic medical record systems, including dental charting, coding, reviewing medical records, and entering and amending notes, under the supervision of a dental attending.
  • Counsel patients about healthy nutrition and its impact on oral health under the supervision of a dental attending.
