Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent education.
A Michigan Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one within six months.
Five to ten years of geotechnical engineering experience with progressively increasing responsibility.
Experience with computer software used for geotechnical engineering design, including deep foundation, earth retention, pavement design, and slope stability applications.
Ability to work collaboratively on a project team.
Ability to plan one's own time and demonstrate good time management.
Ability to solve problems, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and exercise sound engineering judgment.
Ability to manage several concurrent projects, prioritize workload, and meet tight timelines without compromising quality.

Responsibilities
Prepare engineering analyses, designs, calculations, and reports for portions or all of a project for review by a Project Manager.
Plan geotechnical investigations, oversee drilling and laboratory testing, and prepare reports with recommendations.
Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, land use planners, attorneys, owners, and facility managers on design teams.
Prepare project drawings, calculations, and specifications.
Assist with proposals and fee estimates for potential projects and support marketing and meetings with existing or potential clients.
Maintain complete geotechnical design responsibility for projects and answer client and contractor questions during construction.
Perform construction assistance, including reviewing concrete and asphalt mix designs, visiting job sites, reviewing technicians' daily reports, and coordinating with contractors, clients, and owners.
Assist in training and mentoring staff engineers and engineering technicians.
Attend and participate in project meetings.
Stay current on legal and industry regulations.
Perform or oversee geotechnical laboratory testing and training.
Assist the Geotechnical Project Manager with client billing.
Travel primarily locally to job sites during the business day.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Overview
The Geotechnical Project Engineer technically leads a staff which may include staff engineers and engineering technicians, while the entire team reports to a Project Manager. Also requires working independently to plan, execute, and oversee engineering tasks in order to complete a project.
Responsibilities

Qualifications
Formal Education, Licenses and Certifications

Physical Demands
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate CAD, computers and various pieces of office equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
Availability
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and overtime as required.
Travel
Travel will be required to respective job sites and is primarily local during the business day.
