Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL is required.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles is required.
  • The ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations is required.
  • The ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan is required.
  • The ability to effectively plan, delegate, and/or supervise the work of others is required.
  • The ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others is required.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the enterprise data dictionary.
  • Set standards and controls for the infrastructure processes associated with the databases.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical system support for the database programming group.
  • Provide senior technical leadership to database design teams, database programming groups, and information technology.
  • Monitor the future direction of systems and assess its impact on the enterprise.
  • Serve as a source of documentation and standards to direct information technology activities.
  • Coordinate current and future plans and activities with other information technology groups.
  • Provide reports on system problems and solutions and forecast future utilization and equipment requirements.
  • Identify areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new procedures need to be developed, particularly for future business expansion.
  • Make presentations for local and national user groups.
  • Publish articles describing the enterprise's activities and technology assessments.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to assess advanced transaction processing and database products, including beta and field testing.
  • Meet or exceed the enterprise's information technology performance standards.
  • Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensure employees are trained on controls and University policies and procedures.
  • Design, install, manage, troubleshoot, and performance-tune database systems.
  • Assist project managers and directors with creating task-level project plans detailing the tasks required to deliver solutions.
  • Develop, test, and implement system changes and upgrades.
  • Develop, test, and implement database backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Document technical designs using charts, diagrams, schemas, and descriptive software component documentation.
