Department Specific Functions
Practitioner is responsible for initiating admission, orders, discharges and perform comprehensive examination of patients.
Completes history, perform physical examination, review medical records and laboratory reports, interprets diagnostic tests, formulate risk assessment and plan for surgery in conjunction with supervising physician, documents in EMR (Epic/UChart, Care, Meditech)
Order, perform and/or monitor pertinent diagnostic tests including but not limited to: laboratory tests, X-rays, immunizations, microscopic exams, EKG’s, and other diagnostic tests as deemed appropriate.
Identification, monitoring, management and evaluation of medical, surgical and interventional conditions, common to the specific client population. This includes both acute and chronic illness states.
Collaborates with the supervising physician in making recommendations
Provide education and counseling for patients, families, and community groups on various health conditions.
Prescribe life style modification in accordance with the patients’ health problems
Initiate referrals, including but not limited to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and respiratory therapy.
Reports incidents in event reporting system (Quantros)
Participates in QA activities according to Joint Commission Standards as requested
Initiate referrals and/or consultations to other health care professionals whose locations may be within the facility or community based.
Discharge patients from hospital, with appropriate discharge orders, teaching, prescriptions, and summary when appropriate
Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team
Acts as a liason between nursing and medical services to ensure proper follow-through on all pre-operative patients.
Act as a preceptor for student nurse practitioners
Effectively triages patients and physician referral phone calls.
Meets the expectations of the patient, families and significant by listening to them demonstrating sensitivity and awareness of others.
Follows through to ensure that established expectations are satisfied.
Ensures compliance with all institutional policies and procedures including mandatory services, employee health procedures, Federal, State, regulatory and accrediting agencies standards and regulations.
Responsible for the continuous development and ongoing clinical management of the patients in UHealth preoperative Assessment Center. This will be accomplished while carrying out the Mission, Goals and Objectives of the University of Miami and University of Miami Hospital while focusing on the patients, physicians and employees as customers.
Participates in all activities that further professional growth and development, attends/completes mandatory in-services and CBL’s.
Recognizes signs of abuse and/or neglect and reports findings to MD
