Requirements
  • Must possess a current pharmacist license required by the state board where services will be provided: a valid license through the Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia Board of Pharmacy, as applicable.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation where required by the facility, through CBLs, trainings, in-services, or competency validation.
  • Walk and stand for long periods, lift 30 pounds, push 50 pounds, and perform the dexterity required to finger, handle, and reach.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development; patient needs and scope of treatment; patient biophysical, biopsychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge-planning needs; pain management; and care focused on controlling pain and other symptoms for patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment.
  • Be familiar with the professional and commercial aspects of hospital pharmacy and state and federal laws governing pharmacy.
  • Demonstrate competency in patient-care assessment, as appropriate, for the patient populations served: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Responsibilities
  • Compound and dispense medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to provide professional pharmaceutical service.
  • Dispense drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
  • Remain available for pharmaceutical consultation with doctors or nurses.
  • Question prescriptions when necessary.
  • Assist the pharmacy manager with purchasing drugs from vendors.
  • Speak with pharmaceutical company sales representatives when needed.
  • Conduct drug checks and inspections on various floors as required.
  • Assist the intravenous admixture program by checking orders for completeness, accuracy, and compatibility, and by providing other technical advice.
  • Attend pharmacy-related hospital meetings when delegated.
  • Assist the manager with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program.
  • Assist the manager with pharmacy floor inspection reports.
  • Handle delegated responsibilities including continuing education programs, night-stock supplies, departmental reports, and other work to maintain an organized and efficient department.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hospital pharmacy experience through an internship or as a registered pharmacist is preferred.
  • Previous outpatient pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Computer experience is helpful.
