Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in automotive manufacturing inspection or metrology is required.
  • Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and blueprint reading is required.
  • Hands-on operator-level experience with coordinate measuring machines, height gauges, micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges is required.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949, advanced product quality planning, production part approval process, and statistical process control fundamentals is required.
  • Ability to perform Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility studies is required.
  • Ability to stand and walk on the shop floor and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final dimensional and visual inspections of automotive components using coordinate measuring machines, height gauges, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing symbols to determine measurement methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Operate coordinate measuring machine equipment, load programs, verify alignments, and ensure accurate readings.
  • Complete dimensional reports, capability studies including Cp/Cpk, and non-conformance reports.
  • Support production part approval process documentation, including ISIR and Measurement Systems Analysis/Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility.
  • Conduct routine calibration checks, maintain inspection equipment, and update calibration records according to IATF 16949.
  • Assist with root cause analysis using 5-Why and Fishbone methods for non-conformances.
  • Verify corrective actions and maintain 5S standards in inspection areas.
  • Work between the quality laboratory and manufacturing floor.
  • Travel occasionally to customers and suppliers, approximately 10–20%.
Desired Qualifications
  • A technical trade certificate or associate degree is preferred.
  • Experience with metal-mechanic automotive parts involving stamping, welding, or machining is preferred.
  • Coordinate measuring machine programming knowledge using PC-DMIS, Calypso, or MCOSMOS is preferred.
  • Experience with portable coordinate measuring machine arms such as FARO or Hexagon, or with laser scanning, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with original equipment manufacturer customer-specific requirements for GM, Ford, Stellantis, or Toyota is preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ability is preferred.
