About the job
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- At least 3 years of professional civil engineering and site or land development design experience.
- Proficiency with site layout, grading, utility design, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.
- Strong computer skills, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience preparing site or civil engineering plans and land development documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Ability to think critically, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and technical communication skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively to clients, team members, and regulatory agencies.
- Develop site and civil engineering plans, designs, and specifications for projects in industrial, institutional, real estate, coastal, and energy markets.
- Support project managers and senior engineers in executing small, medium, and large-scale projects.
- Prepare land development design and permitting documents, including site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management plans.
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis related to site development and infrastructure design.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
- Coordinate with surveyors, landscape architects, traffic engineers, environmental professionals, and other disciplines to develop integrated project solutions.
- Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, boards, commissions, utility providers, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with permitting activities and responses to regulatory comments.
- Support project task scope, budget, and schedule management.
- Assist with construction administration activities, including responding to requests for information, reviewing submittals, and providing field support.
- Participate in site visits and construction observations as needed.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with clients, project teams, and regulatory agencies.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff as experience and expertise develop.
- Assist with proposals, project pursuits, and business development activities.
- Prior experience supporting project management, client coordination, or permitting activities.
- Experience with real estate, institutional, industrial, coastal, or energy projects.
- EIT or PE credential.
- Understanding of the Long Island marketplace and local permitting requirements.

Since its company's founding in 1979, VHB and its team members have raised more than $5 million for charitable organizations through VHB Cares.
