Requirements
  • A license and active registration as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in New York State are required.
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program is required.
  • Board certification is required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Basic Life Support certifications are required.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records is required.
  • The role requires maintaining HIPAA and patient confidentiality at all times.
Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced clinical care to premature and critically ill newborns.
  • Perform comprehensive physical assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage neonatal conditions, including acute, chronic, and complex medical issues.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and care plans based on clinical findings.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory tests, imaging, and monitoring data.
  • Administer and manage medications, therapies, and life-support interventions.
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Manage discharge planning and follow-up care for high-risk infants.
  • Educate and support families and caregivers, including explaining diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Ensure accurate clinical documentation and adherence to regulatory and quality standards.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and education activities within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  • Participate in high-risk births, including neonatal resuscitation and stabilization.
  • Conduct or assist with neonatal procedures including intubation, umbilical catheter placement, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, surfactant administration, peripherally inserted central catheter lines, lumbar puncture, and circumcision.
  • Serve as a member of the Neonatal Transport Team providing air and ground transport.
