  • Experience rolling out and scaling support processes, including service level agreements, escalation paths, tooling, and metrics.
  • Hands-on experience applying artificial intelligence to support work, such as AI-assisted triage, response drafting, or self-service deflection.
  • Ability to troubleshoot by reading logs, working with REST APIs and webhooks, and tracing problems across systems.
  • Scripting ability in Python and working knowledge of SQL.
  • Fluency with support metrics, including first response time, resolution time, and customer satisfaction, and experience improving them.
  • Clear, calm written and verbal communication with technical and executive audiences.
  • Comfort building processes where none exist.
  • Cybersecurity experience, especially with vulnerability management tools such as Tenable, Qualys, Rapid7, Wiz, or CrowdStrike.
  • Experience managing or mentoring a support team.
  • Working knowledge of a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and identity concepts such as single sign-on, Security Assertion Markup Language, and OAuth.

  • Experience supporting artificial intelligence, machine learning, or agent-based products.
  • Experience as the first support hire at an early-stage startup.
Responsibilities
  • Own technical escalations end to end, from triage and reproduction through resolution, across integrations, agent behavior, data pipelines, and the platform user interface.
  • Debug within Fortune 500 production environments using logs, APIs, and agent traces across scanners, cloud providers, ticketing systems, and identity tools connected to the agents.
  • Advocate for customers within engineering by writing clear, reproducible bug reports, driving fixes to resolution, and shipping small fixes, scripts, and internal tooling.
  • Partner with the Head of Customer Success and the Solutions Engineering team to integrate new customers and get them live.
  • Lead communication with CISOs, security engineers, and IT leaders during high-stakes incidents.
  • Use artificial intelligence to scale support by automating triage, drafting responses, and building self-service answers.
  • Feed recurring ticket patterns back to product and engineering to inform product direction.
  • Build enterprise security customer support processes, tiers, service level agreements, and escalation paths.
  • Build ticketing, on-call, and incident communication systems, using tools such as Pylon or Zendesk connected to Linear for engineering handoffs.
  • Build a knowledge base and troubleshooting runbooks for customers and internal teams.
  • Create support reporting on first response time, resolution time, customer satisfaction, and top ticket drivers.
  • Develop the hiring plan and onboarding for future support engineers, with a path to leading the team.

About the company

What believers are saying

  • September 2026 Zero Day Response finds exposures within minutes, before scanner signatures.
  • February 2026 Series A raised $42 million, totaling $53 million for rapid enterprise expansion.
  • Cogent cites dozens of Fortune 1000 customers, including Alteryx and CSC Generation.

What critics are saying

  • CrowdStrike and Palo Alto shipped exposure-management automation in August 2026.
  • Autonomous remediation creates one bad agentic action away from outage, data loss, or trust collapse.
  • If VR-1 underperforms in production, Cogent becomes another pricey workflow wrapper.

What makes Cogent Security unique

  • September 2026 VR-1 targets attack-path proofing, not single-vulnerability detection.
  • Cogent’s harness enforces customer policy, audit logging, and controlled remediation actions.
  • Founders from Abnormal Security, Coinbase, and Google DeepMind bring rare execution credibility.

Cogent launches AI-powered attack path analysis to counter rogue AI agent swarms

Cogent has launched Attack Path Analysis, a security tool using AI models to map routes attackers could take to reach an organisation's critical data and systems. The tool traces paths across cloud, on-premises, identity, and code infrastructure using data from existing security tools, then identifies single fixes that eliminate entire attack routes. The launch follows a July incident where roughly 700 AI agents attacked Hugging Face over four and a half days, executing over 17,600 actions to assemble a chain reaching 136 production keys. Cogent Research found that attack paths viable only for AI agents run at least twice as deep as those available to human attackers. The tool analyses vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, credentials, and permissions to identify routes attackers might exploit, working backwards from critical assets to find chokepoints where single changes can sever attack paths.

Cogent launches VR-1, first frontier AI model designed for cybersecurity tasks

Cogent has launched VR-1, which it describes as the first Mythos-class frontier AI model designed specifically for cybersecurity tasks. The company emphasises that whilst most frontier models can identify individual bugs in single codebases, real-world attacks typically exploit chains of minor weaknesses rather than isolated flaws. These attack chains might involve a public service exposing a vulnerability, excessive identity permissions, or unchecked artifacts in build pipelines. VR-1 aims to address this more complex, interconnected nature of cybersecurity threats by moving beyond single-bug detection to understand how multiple small weaknesses can combine to create significant security risks. The model represents Cogent's attempt to develop AI capabilities that better reflect actual attack patterns in production environments.

Cogent raises funding from Greylock and Bain to cut vulnerability response from 60 days to hours with AI

Cogent, an AI-native cybersecurity startup backed by Greylock Partners and Bain Capital Ventures, has launched Zero Day Response and Autonomous Remediation capabilities designed to compress vulnerability response from weeks to hours. The company aims to address the growing gap between exploit development and enterprise remediation as time to exploit has collapsed from nine months in 2022 to hours in 2026. Zero Day Response identifies vulnerabilities within minutes of public disclosure without waiting for scanner signatures, whilst Autonomous Remediation determines fixes, assesses business impact and confirms resolution. Cogent research found 62% of critical vulnerabilities had exploits circulating before scanner detection, with an average 5.1-day lag between CVE publication and scanner coverage. The platform has helped Fortune 500 security teams reduce exposure windows by 97%.

Cogent Security raises $42M Series A for autonomous AI agents tackling vulnerabilities

Cogent Security has raised $42 million in a Series A round led by Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from Greylock Partners and Definition. The financing brings total funding to $53 million, just six months after the company's launch in July 2025. The San Francisco-based startup deploys AI agents to automate cybersecurity remediation, addressing the growing gap between vulnerability discovery and fixing. Whilst attackers using AI can exploit new vulnerabilities within minutes, traditional security teams take days or weeks to coordinate fixes manually. Cogent's platform investigates vulnerabilities, determines system ownership, assesses risk and generates remediation steps, tracking fixes through to completion. Customers have reduced exposure windows for critical risks by an average of 97%. Founded by former executives from Abnormal Security and Coinbase, Cogent is already working with dozens of Fortune 1000 companies.
