General Mills' 7.2% dividend yield looks safe for now, but earnings are falling

General Mills has kept its dividend while food rivals Conagra and Campbell's cut theirs this year, but its payout looks stretched. Inflation and the rise of appetite-curbing GLP-1 drugs have hurt the sector. For the quarter ended August 30, net sales fell 3%, due to the sale of its US yogurt business; organic sales were flat. Per-share profit was $0.75, down from $0.86 a year earlier. The $0.61 quarterly dividend gives a payout ratio of about 81%. Free cash flow over 12 months was $1.6 billion, against $1.3 billion paid in dividends. The yield is 7.2%, among the highest in the S&P 500. The dividend looks safe for now, but the buffer is thin. The stock is down 45% over five years.

Conagra plans to sell or close Dresden tomato processing plant.

Conagra plans to sell or close Dresden tomato processing plant. October 26, 2026 Conagra Brands has confirmed that the company plans to sell its Dresden, Ontario facility or close it in 2027. "After a careful review, Conagra has made the decision to close or sell its facility in Dresden, Ontario, and the associated brands and private label business," says Dan Hare, spokesperson, Conagra. "Conagra is currently in discussions with Highbury Canco about a potential transaction to sell the business. If an agreement to sell the business is not completed, then Conagra will close the facility in mid- to late 2027." The region of Chatham-Kent accounts for about 55 per cent of Ontario's processing tomato production according to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. That translates to about 6,750 to 7,110 acres. The adjoining county of Essex accounts for the remainder of production. According to the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers, the processing tomato sector had a farmgate value of $99,959 million in 2025. There were 633,515 tons contracted compared to 571,560 in 2026.

Conagra, Mondelez and Penske: 3 US dividend stocks for a higher-for-longer rate climate

With Federal Reserve officials signalling that borrowing costs may stay higher for longer, with rates near 3.9% and inflation above target, a Simply Wall St screen has picked three US large-cap value stocks for income investors. Conagra Brands, a $6.4 billion packaged foods group, is funding Project Catalyst, a process and technology overhaul. Most financial benefits are expected from fiscal 2028 onward. Mondelez International, valued at $77.1 billion, kept its pricing actions after earlier cocoa cost spikes. Management calls the cocoa market structurally oversupplied in 2026, which may steady input costs. Penske Automotive Group, a $12.9 billion transportation services group, is growing higher-margin service and parts income. Retail Automotive brings in about $27.9 billion of its revenue.

Celeste Pizza is being discontinued as Conagra cuts struggling brands.

Celeste Pizza is being discontinued as Conagra cuts struggling brands. Conagra has stopped producing Celeste Pizza as part of its mission to cut unprofitable brands and simplify its food portfolio. 8 October 2026, 03:45 AM Celeste Pizza is disappearing from grocery store freezers after parent company Conagra Brands confirmed that it stopped producing the decades-old frozen pizza line. Shoppers may still be able to find Celeste products while retailers work through their remaining inventory, but Conagra says no additional pizzas are being made. Once existing supplies are sold, the products are expected to disappear from shelves. Why is Celeste Pizza being discontinued? The decision forms part of a plan by Conagra to simplify its portfolio and eliminate smaller brands and products that are delivering weak returns. Conagra CEO John Brase discussed Celeste during the company's fiscal first-quarter 2027 earnings update on Sept. 30, and identified the pizza brand as one of the businesses where the company does not see enough future potential to justify continued investment. Exiting Celeste reduced Conagra's first-quarter sales by about 15 basis points, although the company expects the move to improve profit margins over time. Celeste may also be only the beginning. Conagra is reviewing other brands and individual products as it looks to reduce complexity in its operations. The company currently has more than 400 single-serve meal SKUs, and management believes that assortment can become much smaller and more productive. Conagra battles falling sales. The portfolio shake-up comes as Conagra deals with weaker consumer demand and pressure across its frozen food business. The company reported fiscal first-quarter net sales of roughly $2.6 billion, down 1.4% from a year earlier, while organic net sales slipped 1.1%. However, adjusted earnings came in ahead of expectations at $0.41 per share. Fiscal Q1 2027 earnings highlights Conagra maintained its fiscal 2027 forecast for organic sales to decline between 1% and 3%. For Celeste fans, however, the financial restructuring means the end of a brand that has been sold for decades. The pizza traces its roots to Celeste "Mama" Lizio's Chicago-area food business, which was sold to Quaker Oats in 1969. The decision has already prompted nostalgic reactions online from customers remembering Celeste as an inexpensive childhood freezer staple. Unless Conagra changes course or sells the brand, the pizzas will be gone once the remaining inventory runs out. Kraken Crypto Exchange. PepsiCo to cut costs as weak North America business hurts annual core profit forecast.

PepsiCo to cut costs as weak North America business hurts annual core profit forecast. Reuters Last Updated: Oct 08, 2026, 07:00:00 PM IST PepsiCo is gearing up to implement further cost-cutting measures in response to rising input costs and a slowdown in consumer demand. CEO Ramon Laguarta indicated that actionable strategies would be rolled out shortly to bolster investments. The company has revised its fiscal 2026 core earnings per share growth estimate to a modest 1% to 2%, down from previous figures, while annual organic revenue growth is now anticipated at approximately 3%. PepsiCo said on Thursday it would pursue additional cost cuts after lowering its annual core profit forecast due to sluggish demand for its snacks and beverages in North America and rising input costs. Consumer packaged goods makers such as PepsiCo, General Mills, McCormick and Conagra Brands are navigating a tricky environment where surging input costs are straining margins, while cautious spending amid rising gas prices is hurting demand.
