  • A basic understanding of mechanical systems, including pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical drive systems, is required.
  • The candidate must be able to design, commission, and troubleshoot PLC, VFD, and HMI applications of varying complexity.
  • The candidate must be able to select appropriate electrical hardware for new or modified systems.
  • The candidate must be able to connect to servo controllers across the division for setup, configuration, and troubleshooting without supervision, and use teach pendants to troubleshoot robots.
  • The candidate must be able to select appropriate network communication designs for applications.
  • The candidate must be able to use data storage and retrieval tools to transfer data between factory-floor devices and higher-level systems.
  • The candidate must be able to troubleshoot safety-related hardware and software, modify existing circuits as needed, and design new circuits for application requirements.
  • The candidate must be able to read, edit, and generate electrical schematics and ensure they are current.
  • The candidate must be able to read P&ID diagrams for troubleshooting and generate electrical bills of material from them with limited assistance.
  • The candidate must be able to perform work independently and in accordance with regulatory, company, and divisional electrical standards and best practices.
  • The role includes supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations and requires availability for on-call, weekend, and holiday work.
Responsibilities
  • Direct and support electricians, junior automation engineers, and other plant staff in troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems on new or existing equipment of any size or complexity.
  • Carry out automation-related tasks directly and through management of internal and external resources to support process improvement; identify improvement opportunities and propose solutions.
  • Support and manage capital projects from an electrical perspective, including scope development, budgeting, bidding, installation, commissioning, and documentation; participate in or lead mechanical efforts and oversee internal and external resources as needed.
  • Maintain and develop divisional electrical standards and best practices in coordination with senior staff and corporate departments.
  • Drive process conformity across divisions from a controls perspective.
  • Direct electricians and junior automation engineers making changes, review those changes, and provide feedback.
  • Develop junior automation engineers and electricians by identifying skill gaps, coaching them directly, and/or recommending training to their superiors.
  • Partner with resources from other disciplines to develop and execute capital improvement projects from conception through commissioning.
