About the job

Requirements
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • 8–12 years of experience in heavy industrial or process environments, such as metals, mining, cement, food and beverage, or other power- and water-intensive industries.
  • Demonstrated experience in application engineering, technical offer creation, or process engineering roles.
  • A proven track record of customer-facing technical engagement at plant level.
  • Experience working with or alongside industrial sales teams, ideally in a technical enablement or pre-sales capacity.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial heating, cooling, and water transfer systems.
  • Competency in high-pressure application engineering, including descaling systems, high-pressure washing and cleaning, and hydraulic press fluid supply circuits.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and commercially analyze P&IDs and process schematics across diverse industrial applications.
  • Understanding of chiller operations, selection principles, and integration into industrial process cooling systems.
  • Knowledge of cooling tower operations, including parallel configurations and system-level performance.
  • Competency in parallel operations involving boilers, pumps, chillers, and cooling towers, and the hydraulic and thermal interdependencies between them.
  • Ability to design system-level solutions for process applications rather than only select individual components.
  • Ability to build energy-savings calculations, ROI models, and carbon-reduction cases from first principles.
  • Familiarity with industrial protection classes, IP ratings, and hazardous-area compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of CRM tools and pipeline management disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts credibly with plant engineers and process managers, translate technical insight into customer and business value, and train sales teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to drive adoption of industrial strategy and solution-selling discipline among sales teams without formal authority.
  • Ability to work self-directed in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across time zones, cultures, and functions in a global matrix organization.
  • Fluency in English.
Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end creation of technical offers for industrial customers across metals, mining, cement, food and beverage, and other power- and water-intensive sectors.
  • Ensure offers are technically accurate, appropriate to the application, and clearly communicate Armstrong’s value proposition to industrial plant-level stakeholders.
  • Select and specify solution architectures for heating, cooling, water transfer, and high-pressure applications based on customer process requirements.
  • Build energy-savings calculations, ROI models, and lifecycle-cost cases from first principles to support offers.
  • Analyze each customer's P&IDs to map heating, cooling, water-transfer, and high-pressure touchpoints, identify addressable scope, and reflect the complete opportunity in offers.
  • Ensure offers reflect applicable industrial environment requirements, including protection classes, IP ratings, and hazardous-area classifications.
  • Review and validate offers prepared by regional sales teams before submission, maintaining consistent technical and commercial quality.
  • Engage directly with plant engineers, process managers, and energy managers at customer facilities to understand process requirements, pain points, and optimization opportunities.
  • Conduct site assessments and process audits to map system architectures and identify where Armstrong solutions can deliver value.
  • Analyze P&IDs to map relevant plant application touchpoints and structure account opportunities.
  • Deliver technical presentations and solution walkthroughs that translate fluid-flow and thermal-management concepts into operational and financial outcomes.
  • Support customers in understanding how Armstrong solutions meet industrial environment requirements, protection-class standards, and process-specific compliance needs.
  • Translate the Global Product Manager's industrial strategy into actionable guidance, tools, and training for regional sales teams.
  • Train regional sales teams on Armstrong’s industrial offer, application scope, value proposition, energy-savings methodology, ROI narrative, and decarbonization positioning.
  • Develop and maintain reusable sales-enablement tools, including application guides, value-proposition frameworks, calculation templates, and reference case studies.
  • Participate in regional weekly sales reviews, contributing application expertise, offer-quality oversight, and strategic direction.
  • Monitor CRM pipeline with sales to ensure opportunities are properly qualified and described and are progressing with appropriate solutions; flag commodity positioning that replaces solution selling.
  • Feed customer and market intelligence back to the Global Product Manager to refine industrial strategy.
  • Define and deliver hot-water application solutions for fluid-supply systems used in natural-gas pressure reduction, food-and-beverage hot-water generators, paper-mill and press hot-water feed, and other industrial applications.
  • Develop expertise in hot-water process systems, including food preparation, process washing, gas heating, power-generation pressure reduction, heat transfer, and sanitation.
  • Build competency in hot-water and cleaning-system applications for industrial and hygiene-critical environments, including food and beverage.
  • Advise on system design, pressure management, equipment selection, and safety for hot-water process circuits operating in industrial protection-class environments.
  • Ensure hot-water process requirements are accurately captured and specified in customer offers.
  • Quantify the energy-savings and carbon-reduction potential of Armstrong solutions compared with incumbent systems, incorporating the analysis into offers and customer conversations.
  • Develop plant-level business cases covering lifecycle cost, ROI, payback period, and decarbonization impact.
  • Equip regional sales teams to emphasize energy and decarbonization outcomes over product specifications and build value-based selling practices.
  • Stay current on industrial energy-efficiency trends, sector-specific decarbonization pressures, and relevant regulatory frameworks across target geographies and industries.
  • Capture structured feedback from customer engagements and offer outcomes, including unmet application needs, competitive gaps, and portfolio limitations.
  • Communicate customer and market intelligence to the Global Product Manager to inform portfolio development and strategy refinement.
  • Identify where the current portfolio needs adaptation or new application opportunities exist, and provide sufficient technical detail for action.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior exposure to high-pressure fluid systems, including descaling, hydraulic press supply, or high-pressure washing.
  • Additional proficiency in Hindi, Mandarin, or European languages, depending on base location.

What believers are saying

  • Remote engineering is available: one Armstrong application-specialist listing labels the position remote.
  • Engineers collaborate across disciplines: Armstrong's Toronto controls-lead posting joins electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and embedded-software specialists.
  • Production reaches multiple regions: Armstrong operates manufacturing facilities on four continents.

What critics are saying

  • Efficiency depends on installation quality: Armstrong identifies poor commissioning as a source of lost system performance.
  • Remote work includes site visits: Armstrong's application-engineer posting requires customer meetings and field walk-throughs.
  • Repeatability shapes controls work: Armstrong's Canadian lead-engineer role requires versioned software baselines and formal change control.

What makes Armstrong Fluid Technology unique

  • Pump control works without remote sensors: Armstrong embeds Sensorless speed control in its Design Envelope range.
  • Customer selection starts in software: Armstrong supplies free ADEPT tools for sizing equipment and preparing project documentation.
  • Monitoring continues after installation: Armstrong sells Pump Manager as a cloud-based performance tracking service.
