Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Typically 10+ years of technical experience in aerospace vehicle design, structural engineering, GNC, or aerothermodynamics.
  • Typically 3+ years of formal people-management experience, with a proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Deep technical competency in at least one core reentry field (aerothermal analysis, TPS development, hypersonic flight dynamics, or structural design).
  • Proven experience managing complex aerospace programs through design, environmental qualification, and flight operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to drive alignment across hardware, software, and production organizations.
  • This position is on-site at Inversion HQ in Playa Vista, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Lead daily operations, roadmaps, and budget allocation for the Arc Reentry organization, managing multiple teams across structures, GNC, flight sciences, and TPS production.
  • Own the technical delivery of the Arc primary vehicle structure, aerodynamic shape, and thermal protection system (TPS) integration.
  • Own the technical characterization of the aerodynamic forces and moments and aerothermal environments during hypersonic reentry.
  • Oversee the development, testing, and validation of Arc hypersonic reentry GNC algorithms and flight performance from reentry initiation through parachute deployment.
  • Coordinate with the centralized Reentry functional group to utilize core analysis tools for CFD aerothermal modeling, conjugate heat transfer, plasma modeling, and structural dynamics.
  • Manage the design, development, and qualification of high-temperature flap actuators and mechanism interfaces critical to hypersonic flight control.
  • Drive TPS production, tool design, and hands-on application processes for the physical vehicle build, collaborating directly with the Production and AI&T teams.
  • Recruit, mentor, and build a high-performance team, developing future engineering managers and technical leaders within the Reentry organization.
  • Lead critical multi-system trade studies, balancing mass budgets, thermal margins, aerodynamic control authority, and structural integrity.

WASHINGTON, May 5: Defense technology company Anduril Industries on Tuesday announced its consortium to develop space-based interceptors for the U.S. Space Force, as part of the Trump administration's Golden Dome for America missile defense initiative. Unlike existing ground-based systems, the Space-Based Interceptor (SBI) program deploys weapons in orbit, enabling the U.S. military to engage and destroy threats earlier in their flight path, intercepting missiles sooner after launch. Anduril said its consortium includes Impulse Space, Inversion Space, K2 Space, Sandia National Laboratories, and Voyager Technologies, bringing together commercial space startups and established research institutions to deliver what the company described as "affordable, scalable" interceptor solutions. The Department of Defense's Space Force has awarded 12 companies contracts to develop space-based missile defense interceptor systems worth up to a combined $3.2 billion. Other recipients include Northrop Grumman, RTX's Raytheon, SpaceX, and Lockheed Martin, among others. The U.S.'s "near-peer adversaries have invested in exotic, highly maneuverable vehicles, introducing considerable challenges to protecting the U.S. homeland," Gokul Subramanian, Anduril's senior vice president of engineering, said in a statement. The goal is to demonstrate an integrated interceptor capability within the Golden Dome architecture by around 2028, adding an orbital layer to U.S. homeland defense. Golden Dome, expected to cost $185 billion, plans to expand ground-based defenses such as interceptor missiles, sensors and command-and-control systems while adding space-based elements to detect, track and potentially counter incoming threats from orbit. Golden Dome's director, Space Force General Michael Guetlein, has previously identified the SBI program as the initiative's highest-risk element, citing scalability and affordability as the central challenges. He has said directed energy weapons and next-generation artificial intelligence represent the most promising technologies for driving down cost-per-kill.

Space startup unveils 1-hour orbital delivery system. A Los Angeles-based aerospace startup called Inversion Space has unveiled Arc, its first flagship spacecraft designed to deliver supplies from orbit back to Earth in record time. The reusable reentry vehicle can transport up to 500 pounds of mission-critical cargo to nearly any point on the planet in less than an hour. Founders Justin Fiaschetti and Austin Briggs launched the company in 2021 with a bold vision: to build a space-based logistics network. During an event at the company's factory, they described Arc as the next evolution of global delivery, one that starts in orbit, not on the ground. Standing about 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide, Arc is roughly the size of a large tabletop. It's a lifting-body vehicle, meaning it can steer as it reenters the atmosphere. Instead of needing a runway, Arc lands safely under parachutes, using non-toxic propellants that make it safe to handle immediately after landing. The spacecraft features a cross-range of approximately 621 miles, allowing it to target wide landing zones. It can stay in orbit for up to five years, ready to return to Earth when needed. That flexibility means the spacecraft could one day drop off medical supplies, drones or military equipment at hard-to-reach locations. Beyond rapid delivery, Arc doubles as a hypersonic testing platform. It can reach speeds over Mach 20, endure extreme heat and survive massive g-forces. Those capabilities have caught the attention of U.S. defense agencies, which are eager to improve hypersonic flight testing. Inversion's participation in the Kratos-led MACH-TB 2.0 program highlights the growing military interest in Arc's reusable design. "Fully reusable and capable of precise landings for rapid recovery, Arc makes hypersonic testing faster, repeatable, and more affordable," the company said. Before Arc, Inversion launched a smaller demo craft called Ray on SpaceX's Transporter-12 mission. Ray weighed about 200 pounds and successfully tested propulsion, avionics and solar power systems in orbit. Though a short circuit prevented reentry, it provided valuable data that led to Arc's development. Ray's success convinced the company to push forward with full-scale testing. Inversion has already completed dozens of drop tests and built a full-scale Arc prototype. The startup also partnered with NASA to refine the vehicle's thermal protection system for reentry. Inversion sees Arc as a bridge between space logistics and national defense. The spacecraft could deliver mission-critical cargo to remote, damaged or denied environments where traditional transport would take days. As Fiaschetti put it, the goal is simple: make a difference the moment it lands. By combining maneuverability, reusability and speed, Arc could reshape both emergency response and battlefield supply chains. It's not just about moving packages, it's about delivering readiness. If Arc succeeds, it could redefine emergency logistics on Earth.
