Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or an equivalent field.
  • A California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license from the American Society for Clinical Pathology is required.
  • At least one year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Trainee within the last five years is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform technical and complex laboratory tests in one or more laboratory sections, including Chemistry, Bench Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Histology, Microbiology, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, and Urinalysis.
  • Recognize deviations from expected results, analyze problems, and modify procedures to eliminate technical problems.
  • Perform quality control procedures and document test results.
  • Take appropriate actions to correct out-of-control results and document the actions taken.
  • Serve as a resource for others by answering questions, resolving technical irregularities, and correlating new procedures.
  • Supervise personnel and technical operations in a laboratory section when an on-site supervisor or Lead is absent.
  • Perform instrument checks and preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments, make minor repairs when needed, and document all work performed and actions taken.
  • Report normal and abnormal test results according to Pathology and Hospital procedures.
  • Use laboratory computers to edit, inquire, receive specimens, enter test results, and print results.
  • Receive patient specimens, prepare them for analysis, and collect certain specimens.
  • Follow hospital safety procedures and report unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor or department head.
  • Apply hospital policies and procedures regarding guest relations.
  • Perform other laboratory duties as assigned or required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Basic Life Support/Healthcare provider status according to American Heart Association standards.
