Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Three to seven or more years of accounting experience.
  • At least two years of experience managing fixed assets or capital accounting.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, fixed asset accounting, capitalization rules, depreciation methodologies, and construction accounting principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning or accounting systems such as Vista by Viewpoint, Sage, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the company's fixed asset subledger and ensure the accuracy of all capital asset records.
  • Record additions, transfers, disposals, retirements, impairments, and asset adjustments.
  • Review invoices and project expenditures to determine capitalization eligibility.
  • Capitalize completed projects and place assets into service according to company policy.
  • Calculate and record monthly depreciation and amortization.
  • Reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger each month.
  • Prepare journal entries related to capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and adjustments.
  • Monitor Construction-in-Progress balances and coordinate timely capitalization.
  • Maintain detailed supporting documentation for all capital asset transactions.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts and asset verification procedures.
  • Develop and maintain company-wide asset tagging and tracking processes.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Procurement, Fleet, Warehouse, IT, and Operations to ensure complete asset visibility.
  • Review leased versus owned equipment classifications.
  • Track vehicles, equipment, machinery, tools, technology hardware, office equipment, and building improvements.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting related to capital expenditures.
  • Assist with annual audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, and company capitalization policies.
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen asset controls and reporting efficiency.
  • Support enterprise resource planning implementations, system enhancements, and fixed asset module improvements.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end close activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in construction, electrical contracting, engineering, manufacturing, or industrial industries.
  • Experience with Construction-in-Progress accounting.
  • Knowledge of job costing and project accounting.
  • Experience supporting companies operating across multiple states.
  • Experience with fixed asset management software or enterprise resource planning asset modules.
  • Familiarity with lease accounting under ASC 842.
