Requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and solve problems in a dynamic laboratory environment.
  • Strong proficiency with computer systems, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn new laboratory software and databases.
  • Proven experience working in a clinical laboratory setting and familiarity with laboratory protocols and safety standards.
  • Four years of related work experience, including two years in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in preparing slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists.
  • Process specimen registration and accessioning using the laboratory information system.
  • Prepare samples and specimens and perform tasks supporting laboratory operations.
  • Track, maintain, fill, label, and cover patient materials, samples, and slides.
  • Maintain, organize, distribute, and order laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Perform daily quality control checks.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
  • Assist laboratory personnel with clinical and research tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with local, federal, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Evaluate, implement, and practice new methodologies according to department guidelines.
  • Analyze and resolve problems independently as appropriate and in response to management feedback and observation.
  • Work closely with the immediate manager to coordinate clinical or research projects.
  • Perform laboratory tests and procedures in histology, medical technology, cytology, and cytogenetics; record results; interpret test and procedure results; and make preliminary analyses.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment, and instruct support staff on laboratory techniques.
  • Prepare specimens, tissue, bodily fluid samples, and other material for analysis and diagnosis using non-routine laboratory techniques.
  • Stain and mount slides; prepare solutions and media; and culture tissues.
  • Order and maintain inventory of supplies and perform additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with EPIC and PowerPath systems.
  • Formal education in Biology, Cytogenetics, or Genetics and experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
