Requirements
  • Minimum of high school graduation.
  • U.S. military veteran status is required.
  • Able to work up to 20 hours per week.
  • Able to complete Penn State Environmental Health and Safety training and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working in a research environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working in a scientific environment.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities
  • Help SCIA laboratory staff and graduate students with facility operations, including synthesis, slicing, polishing, and characterization of silicon carbide materials.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Follow health and safety protocols and procedures to mitigate risks.
  • Follow and report problems to laboratory staff to track the progress of scientific tests.
  • Learn new equipment and test methodologies.
  • Help laboratory staff keep the laboratory environment clean.
  • Help laboratory staff with equipment maintenance and service activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Expertise in silicon carbide synthesis and processing.
