Requirements
  • A current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse license is required, and a Registered Nurse license is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be maintained.
  • Advanced knowledge of psychiatric, medical-surgical, and/or primary care nursing is required.
  • Competence in a range of nursing skills and advanced clinical skills is required.
  • Seven or more years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, including at least three years in psychiatric nursing; or an Associate Degree in Nursing with five years of experience, including at least one year in psychiatric nursing; or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with three years of experience, including at least one year in psychiatric nursing.
  • The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds and frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • The position requires exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, air pollution, chemical gases or substances, blood, body fluids, or tissue.
  • Staff must follow policies and procedures related to safety management and Joint Commission standards.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure quality patient care and maintain a safe environment.
  • Provide first-level supervision and evaluation to nursing care staff, including Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, Medical Technicians, and Patient Aides.
  • Prepare nursing personnel assignments while considering staffing needs across the organization.
  • Delegate duties to appropriate staff.
  • Provide expert clinical nursing care as a member of the health care team.
  • Identify the need for crisis intervention for staff, patients, and families through assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation, including codes, incident management, and special circumstances.
  • Perform the duties of a licensed nurse as needed.
  • Assist in evaluating nursing goals and treatment philosophy.
  • Develop nursing practices and standards of care.
  • Complete documentation and performance-improvement duties.
  • Complete required annual training within established time frames.
  • Maintain zero tolerance for patient abuse and uphold ethical standards for patient treatment.
  • Participate in the orientation and success of new employees through direct supervision, 90-day evaluations, and goal setting.
  • Follow regulatory personnel and department standards for professional development and maintenance of competent skill levels through internal and external resources.
