What believers are saying

  • Growth is steady: July 2026 results showed second-quarter revenue up 13% to $12.6 billion, with a 33.4% operating margin.
  • Advertising is scaling fast: in July 2026, Netflix forecast ad revenue roughly doubling to about $3 billion this year.
  • Pay aims high: Netflix's culture memo says it pays each person's personal top of market for role and location.

What critics are saying

  • Cuts are on the table: Puck reported in October 2026 that Netflix is weighing layoffs of about 5% of staff.
  • The performance bar is unforgiving: managers apply a keeper test, asking whether they would fight to keep each employee.
  • YouTube draws more TV viewing: figures reported in October 2026 put it at 14.2% of TV time, Netflix at 7.8%.

What makes Netflix unique

  • Scale is its moat: Netflix passed 325 million paid memberships by the end of 2025, serving nearly a billion viewers.
  • Non-English shows carry real weight: they drew over a third of Netflix viewing in the first half of 2026.
  • It owns its ad technology: the in-house Netflix Ads Suite has run in all 12 ad-tier countries since mid-2025.

Netflix's real rival is YouTube, not Disney, as engagement worries grow

Netflix's biggest rival for viewers' attention may be YouTube, not Disney, as worries grow over how engaged its subscribers are. The streamer had more than 325 million paid memberships at the end of 2025. The Wall Street Journal reported in July that engagement was showing signs of decline. Netflix calls engagement "healthy," but it cut its What We Watched viewership report from twice a year to once a year. It says it aims to speed up growth in view hours. YouTube offers free videos and a premium plan, with fresh content daily. Its ad revenue hit $11 billion in the second quarter of 2026, while Netflix expects $2.7 billion in ad revenue for all of 2026. Netflix is adding live events, such as football, boxing, and concerts, though rights cost money.

Netflix walks away from Xbox licensing deal after Microsoft asks $800M versus $500M offer

Netflix reportedly walked away from a deal for seven years of exclusive film and TV rights to Microsoft's Xbox game library, which includes Halo and Gears of War. Puck News reported that Netflix first offered $500 million, but Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma asked for $800 million. Netflix's chief financial officer, Spencer Neumann, rejected the counter as too expensive. The offer was pulled after a mid-October restructuring that cut about 1,000 jobs and saw content chief Bela Bajaria leave. Former Disney executive Peter Rice replaced her. Xbox is now pursuing several smaller deals. Amazon gets "Fallout" Season 3, Paramount Pictures gets a "Call of Duty" movie, and Netflix keeps "Gears of War" and "Diablo." Netflix's third-quarter revenue rose 12% to $12.9 billion, but it cut its 2026 advertising forecast from $3 billion to $2.7 billion.

Netflix viewing slumps despite subscriber growth after password-sharing crackdown

Netflix is adding subscribers, but they are opening the app less often, according to a new Bloomberg report. The trend has raised concern inside the company. Total time spent on the platform rose only slightly in the first half of 2026, and the gain came from having more subscribers, not from people watching more. By Netflix's own measure, qualified play days (QPD), viewership has been falling for a couple of years. The slide began after the company's 2022 password sharing crackdown, which was expected to cause only a temporary dip. Cancellations, competition and price rises do not appear to be the cause. Netflix points to weak promotion, user interface changes, and programming that misses the mark. It also faces slower advertising sales, slowing revenue growth, job cuts, and a leadership shake-up.

Netflix cut 1,000 jobs and its content chief; opinion says dignity in firings matters

Netflix cut roughly 1,000 jobs last week and replaced chief content officer Bela Bajaria, who spent nearly a decade helping build the streaming service into a global entertainment powerhouse. Peter Rice, her successor, was himself abruptly dismissed from Disney in 2022 by then-chief executive officer Bob Chapek, who was fired months later. A Fortune commentary argues that corporate America is treating departing staff too coldly. It cites Columbia Business School research finding that layoffs seen as unfair weaken the commitment of remaining employees. A 2023 study of Airbnb's layoffs found that staff who saw the process as unfair reported less trust in management, lower job satisfaction, and more cynicism. The author says respect, honest communication, and a chance to say goodbye cost little and may pay off as artificial intelligence reshapes work.

KPop Demon Hunters: HUNTR/X dance rehearsal - "How It's Done"

KPop Demon Hunters: HUNTR/X dance rehearsal - "How It's Done" Netflix has released a new KPop Demon Hunters video featuring a HUNTR/X dance rehearsal for the song "How It's Done." Published Mon, 26 Oct 2026 18:23:08 -0500 Article summary. * Netflix has dropped a KPop Demon Hunters HUNTR/X dance rehearsal video for "How It's Done." * The release mirrors real K-pop promotion, where songs expand through videos, performances, and fan reactions. * KPop Demon Hunters nails the look of a girl group dance practice, from the studio setup to the styling. * The rehearsal video stands out for dynamic camera movement, even though most dance practice clips keep it simple. If you know anything about the KPop Machine on the internet, it's kind of an incredible thing with the way it takes over your entire feed. The KPop model doesn't just see a song being released and then calling it good. You get a lyric video of the song, then the music video, then a performance video, and a dance practice. That's just the official stuff. Fans come in and react to one or more of the released videos, so each reactor reacts to anywhere from one to four videos, further expanding the ecosystem. Bleeding Cool is still not done. Now, fancams come in as fans make edits that focus solely on their bias. Much like Pokémon, some idol out there is someone's bias, so now you have fancams. You can get even deeper into the inception of it all with reactions to fancams, and then live performances start coming out. This new song is the first time someone has listened to this band. Now, Bleeding Cool has to look back and react to their entire catalog, and so on. KPop Demon Hunters got a lot right, and now they are nailing it again by releasing a dance practice video. Bleeding Cool has a HUNTR/X dance rehearsal for the song"How It's Done." This is exactly what a dance practice for any girl group would look like, from the logo along the back wall to the floor to the casual yet incredibly stylish outfits, usually monochrome. The only thing the makers of KPop Demon Hunters sort of missed is that, most of the time, dance practices and rehearsals are steady shots with no movement unless Bleeding Cool is talking about choreography, where camera work is essential (see "Impurities" by LE SSERAFIM). KPop Demon Hunters: summary, cast list, release date. When they aren't selling out stadiums, Kpop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey use their secret identities as badass demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their biggest enemy yet - an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.
