Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program is required.
  • For the CMA II level, six months of Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant experience is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through an accepted certifying organization, including American Medical Technologists, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the National Health Career Association, MedCA, the National Association for Health Professionals, or the National Center for Competency Testing, is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to perform the required standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stair climbing, reaching, hand and leg use, repetitive motions, and lifting or carrying duties is required.
  • Ability to qualify physically for respirator use, maintain corrected 20/40 vision, work in a latex-safe indoor environment, and work in dusty or confined spaces when required is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform multi-skilled activities under the direct supervision of a registered nurse to support patient-centered care.
  • Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under physician direction.
  • Interview patients and measure and record vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
  • Record or enter patient information into the medical record.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform scheduled maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Health and Environmental Control, and University Medical Associates requirements, with documentation.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, and document test and examination results.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients and develop patient education materials when necessary.
  • Maintain examination-room supplies, instruments, and the cleanliness of the patient-care environment.
  • Maintain timely patient flow and assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information and provide education related to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' physical and psychosocial conditions and their reactions to medications and treatments to the physician.
  • Respond to and triage telephone calls, call in physician orders as directed, and instruct patients regarding treatment or medication.
  • Monitor and distribute medications, including samples and controlled substances.
  • Triage patients and prepare them for physician examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as necessary.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and performance of tests.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of patient-care experience is preferred for the CMA I level.
