Requirements
  • A medical degree approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required.
  • Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent recognized by the provincial licensing body, is required.
  • A Royal College-approved fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine, or an equivalent, is required.
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association in good standing is required.
  • Strong clinical and operative obstetrical skills are required.
  • The ability to perform the essential duties of the job is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • The physician must understand and comply with patient-safety responsibilities, applicable program plans, policies, procedures, the Professional Staff By-Law, Professional Staff Rules, the Public Hospitals Act, and other applicable legislation.
Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation for high-risk pregnancies and manage high-risk antenatal inpatient care.
  • Complete obstetrical ultrasound reporting, subject to delineation of privileges.
  • Perform amniocentesis and prenatal diagnosis.
  • Demonstrate competence in operative obstetrics, including caesarean delivery.
  • Manage complex pregnancies, including maternal medical conditions, fetal anomalies, growth restriction, multifetal gestations, preeclampsia, and other pregnancy-related complications.
  • Comply with the call schedule established by the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • Remain available for consultation with professional colleagues during inpatient days.
  • Participate in quality-improvement projects within the department.
  • Participate in staff and departmental meetings.
  • Maintain clinical acumen and skills within the scope of practice.
  • Provide clinical care and consultation services in support of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • Contribute to patient and staff safety.
