K3Metrology wins $2.5M Innovate UK award to speed up Metralis 3D measurement platform

K3Metrology has won a £2 million Innovate UK project award to speed up development of Metralis, its laser-based 3D coordinate measurement platform for advanced manufacturing. The award follows a £2.75 million seed round announced in April 2026. The funding comes through Innovate UK's Investor Partnerships programme, which pairs government research funding with private investment. K3Metrology is eligible for 45% grant funding under the award. The money will help move Metralis towards commercial use in aerospace, defence, and other high-value manufacturing. A timing study with a major manufacturing partner showed efficiency gains of 60%. The seed round was backed by the Development Bank of Wales, Parkwalk, and the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund. The company is based at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre Cymru in North Wales.

MoniRail and partners secure $63.5M to bring quantum train navigation to London Underground

Birmingham firm MoniRail and its partners have secured £50 million in funding to develop and commercialise a quantum navigation system for the London Underground. The technology can pinpoint train and track faults where satellite signals can't reach. Innovate UK awarded MoniRail a contract under its Quantum Missions Primer Phase 2 initiative, building on earlier Quantum Catalyst funding that proved the concept. MoniRail leads a consortium including Imperial College London, University of Sussex, Spectomiq, PA Consulting, Transport for London (TfL), GBRX, Durham University, and QinetiQ. TfL will provide testing facilities and live trials. "Understanding train-position with high degrees of accuracy is critical for the ongoing safety of the railway," said chief executive officer Peter Ainsworth.

Go Eve raises $950,000 to upgrade DockChain EV charging tech

Go Eve, a spin-out from University College Dublin and Imperial College London, has secured £750,000 (around €890,000) from Innovate UK and private investors. The money will fund an 18-month project to upgrade its patented DockChain technology, which lets one DC fast charger serve several parking bays. The update covers new hardware, firmware, and software to make charging more reliable. Drivers will not need to unplug and reconnect vehicles to start, stop, or restart charging, and existing units will be upgradeable. The project will also explore vehicle-to-grid (V2G) services, which could let fleet operators earn money by selling stored electricity back to the grid. Go Eve plans to deliver a production-ready version to its manufacturing partners in 2027. It is inviting fleet operators to join trials.
