Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A current and valid Illinois driver's license with the proper classification is required.
  • Successful completion of a paramedic program and maintenance of a current and valid Illinois Department of Public Health license are required.
  • Ability to complete continuing education and testing requirements in the assigned system is required.
  • State of Illinois firefighter certifications are required for firefighter applicants.
  • Successful completion of a professional and criminal background check is required.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a fit-for-duty physical, drug screening, agility evaluation, and lifting evaluation, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls and assess patients' medical needs.
  • Administer appropriate medical treatment and interventions according to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Safely lift, transfer, and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
  • Communicate with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other emergency responders to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation regarding transport, equipment inspections, supply usage, incidents, and other documentation inherent in company operations.
  • Comply with Paramedic Services of Illinois and Department of Health continuing education and licensure requirements through attendance and documentation.
  • Maintain a clean and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and a professional, pleasant, and polite demeanor while on duty.
  • Inspect and promptly report damage, deficiencies, safety issues, or other problems with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment, supplies, or other matters relevant to safe and efficient company operations.
  • Assist with vehicle, equipment, and station maintenance.
  • Participate in public education, public relations, public health safety programs, emergency medical service training, fire training, fire prevention activities, fire suppression, rescue, extrication, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, instruction, and other activities benefiting the company, contracting communities, or the general public.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Pediatric Emergency Prehospital Provider certification.
  • Current Prehospital Trauma Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, or International Trauma Life Support certification.
  • Current CPR Instructor certification.
