Requirements
  • The candidate must be a graduate of a registered approved program for Licensed Practical Nurses and hold current New York State registration.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The candidate must have one to two years of patient care experience.
  • The candidate must demonstrate excellent customer service and good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must maintain required licenses, registrations, and certifications and comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • The candidate must understand and effectively communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance, and client confidentiality.
Responsibilities
  • Assist medical providers in delivering quality patient care and education.
  • Maintain efficient and effective patient flow within the medical units.
  • Ensure a safe and compliant environment in examination areas.
  • Review the daily schedule in the electronic medical record and promptly room patients.
  • Set up examination rooms, offices, and supplies; clean rooms and equipment between patients.
  • Escort and direct patients to examination rooms and support services.
  • Prepare patients and examination rooms for medical visits.
  • Assist with triage procedures under the direct supervision of a medical provider or registered nurse.
  • Recognize and promptly communicate changes in patient condition and high-risk situations to providers.
  • Assist patients with eligibility and access to services through patient assistance programs.
  • Complete patient paperwork, including prior authorizations, transportation services, and prescription services.
  • Review the electronic medical record to determine whether health screenings are current.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities as requested.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow by establishing workflow priorities.
  • Take and record accurate vital signs and collect and record patient data.
  • Collect continuous quality improvement data and other required clinical, referral, and quality-control data.
  • Maintain accurate patient telephone and written correspondence and legible documentation.
  • Complete charting, referral, laboratory, and other forms accurately.
  • Provide patient care according to established protocols, clinical guidelines, infection-control policies, and age-related requirements.
  • Reinforce patient and family teaching and administer medications safely in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Assist providers as needed and keep patients informed of delays.
  • Comply with applicable Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, New York State Department of Health, Joint Commission, and National Committee for Quality Assurance standards.
  • Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals and complete other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • One to two years of physician office experience.
  • Basic computer keyboard knowledge.
  • Flexibility to adjust to schedule changes.
  • Training in laboratory and phlebotomy techniques.
  • Knowledge of managed care requirements.
