Requirements
  • A relevant qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Social Sciences, Psychology, or a similar field, or equivalent experience; students working toward relevant qualifications are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated experience in outreach and working with at-risk or homeless young people, including those affected by alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues or mental health challenges.
  • Strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, and risk assessment skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to build trust and engage effectively with young people facing complex barriers, including First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a small, multidisciplinary team.
  • Well-developed communication, rapport-building, and interpersonal skills, alongside administrative and computer proficiency.
  • Strong professional boundaries, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure, overnight outreach setting.
  • Before starting, candidates must undertake a national police history check, qualifications checks, and referee checks, and have clearance to work with children or vulnerable people.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver assertive street-based outreach across Northbridge and Perth CBD, engaging young people through foot patrols and vehicle-based support.
  • Conduct brief risk assessments and safety planning, and provide trauma-informed, person-centred interventions to reduce harm and immediate risk.
  • Build rapport quickly with street-present young people and support engagement using culturally secure and solution-focused approaches.
  • Provide safe and appropriate transport to approved locations while ensuring the wellbeing of young people.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including WA Police, Crisis Care, Nyoongar Outreach Service, and internal teams.
  • Facilitate Youth at Risk Strategy (YARS) shifts and contribute to coordinated, multi-agency responses for vulnerable young people.
  • Complete accurate and timely administrative tasks, including case notes, data entry, reporting, and handover documentation.
