Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be able to type at least 45 words per minute and use dictation equipment.

  • Must be knowledgeable in computers and data retrieval, input, and output functions.

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and meet the facility’s physical and medical examination requirements.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry or move it at least 50 feet.
  • May need to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain resident medical records and health information systems in accordance with federal and state guidelines and facility privacy policies.
  • Assist in organizing, planning, and directing the medical records department according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Medical Records/Health Information Consultant as required.
  • Maintain meeting minutes and file them as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with interdepartmental personnel to support proper maintenance of medical records.
  • Record and file incidents and accidents according to established procedures.
  • Retrieve resident records manually or electronically and deliver them as necessary.
  • File nurses’ notes, resident assessments, progress notes, laboratory reports, X-ray results, correspondence, and other information in resident charts.
  • Collect, assemble, check, and file resident charts.
  • Assist the MDS Coordinator in scheduling assessments according to facility and OBRA guidelines.
  • Return incomplete records and charts to the appropriate departments or personnel for correction.
  • Assist in developing procedures to ensure resident records are completed, assembled, coded, signed, and indexed before filing.
  • Ensure resident charts and records do not leave the medical records room except as authorized.
  • Maintain records of authorized information released from charts and records, including the information provided, recipient, date, and department.
  • Abstract authorized information from records for insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, the Veterans Administration, and other authorized entities in accordance with privacy rules.
  • Index medical records as directed by the medical records or health information consultant.
  • Maintain registries, including admission and discharge registers.
  • Transcribe and type physician reports as necessary.
  • Collect charts, assemble them in proper order, and inspect them for completion.
  • Pick up and deliver resident medical records from wards, nurses’ stations, and other designated areas.
  • Batch resident information into the computer and retrieve resident demographic information as directed.
  • Answer telephone inquiries concerning medical records functions and prepare written correspondence as necessary.
  • Retrieve medical records for authorized personnel, including physicians, nurses, government agencies, and government personnel.
  • Ensure records removed from the department are signed out and signed in upon return.
  • File active and inactive records according to established policies.
  • Protect assigned user IDs, passwords, and residents’ protected health information, and report suspected violations or unauthorized access attempts.
  • Perform secretarial duties for facility committees as directed.
  • Collect and compile records for committee review and prepare reports for staff and other committees.
  • Report known or suspected fraud to the Administrator.
  • Ensure unattended departmental workstations are logged off or protected by an automatic password-protected screen saver.
  • Attend mandatory facility in-service training programs and approved workshops and seminars.
  • Report unsafe or hazardous conditions and defective equipment to the supervisor.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to the supervisor.
  • Replenish supplies in work areas as necessary.
  • Keep work and assignment areas clean and ensure records and files are properly stored.
  • Work in office areas and throughout the facility, including beyond normal hours, weekends, holidays, and other shifts as necessary.
  • Respond to call-back requirements during emergency conditions.
  • Attend continuing educational programs.
  • Communicate with nursing personnel, other department personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government personnel.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. He previously held CFO roles at Capital Senior Living Corporation, managing 128 communities across 23 states, and Belo Corp. He succeeds Mark Hancock, PACS's co-founder and executive vice chairman, who will retire by 30 June 2026 whilst remaining on the board as vice chairman. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Under his leadership, the company expanded to 323 facilities across 17 states, serving over 31,700 patients daily and generating $5.29 billion in revenue in 2025, representing 29.3% year-on-year growth. PACS Group, a leading post-acute healthcare platform, has appointed Dr Patrick Conway to its board of directors. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
