Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited music therapy program with a Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or its equivalence.
  • Completion and passing, or eligibility, of the National Certification Exam and Music Therapy Board Certified credentials (MT-BC) is required.
  • Proficiency in guitar, piano, and voice.
  • Ability to push a wheelchair and walk, sit, and stand throughout the day.
  • Ability to work with staff, family, volunteers, and vendors in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work as a team member and adapt to changes in work assignments to meet resident or staffing needs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized music therapy services to meet the physical, emotional, cognitive, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of residents living on the memory care floor.
  • Create, develop, and lead a variety of large and small groups based on resident interests.
  • Work with local university music therapy programs to supervise practicum students as part of professional development.
  • Participate in planning and facilitating monthly activity calendars on the memory care unit in collaboration with activity coordinators.
  • Assist the therapeutic recreation department with parties and other in-house events.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and other necessary information in resident charts.
  • Provide updates to the Memory Care therapeutic recreation coordinator for weekly care conferences as part of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Complete MDS assessments, care plans, and progress notes for transitional care unit guests.
  • Plan and facilitate one-to-one sessions and small groups for transitional care unit guests during their stay.
  • Determine supplies and equipment needs and notify the Director or purchase them with the Director's approval.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of activity rooms and storage areas.
  • Follow company policies and procedures and comply with required training and applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Experience in a long-term care environment with adults aged 62 and older.
