Chainguard launches Harness, using frontier AI to find and fix proven vulnerabilities

Chainguard, a Seattle-based open source security company, has launched Chainguard Harness, a tool that uses frontier AI models such as Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5.1 to find and fix exploitable vulnerabilities in application code. Harness builds an app from a customer's source code in an isolated microVM and has the model probe the running instance. It reproduces each finding before delivering a fix reviewed by a Chainguard engineer, so teams act only on proven flaws. Customers can buy Harness through the Claude Marketplace and use part of their existing Anthropic commitment. At launch, Chainguard engineers run the tool on customers' behalf, and access is through a beta waitlist. "Every time we've pointed Harness at code, it has found serious, exploitable vulnerabilities," said chief executive officer Dan Lorenc.

Chainguard launches Workspaces, credential-free microVMs to run coding agents securely

Chainguard, a provider of trusted open source software, today launched Chainguard Workspaces, hardened microVMs that give each developer and coding agent a secure, isolated environment. The environments hold no sensitive credentials, and teams can set egress policies that block unapproved connections. Workspaces run remotely and sync a developer's local working tree, so developers keep their editor and git workflow. Each agent has its own environment, letting dozens run in parallel and carry out long migrations or refactors unattended. Security teams get a signed record of what each agent read, ran, and reached. Chief executive officer Dan Lorenc said teams now must choose between risky access and constant approval prompts, and Workspaces removes that tradeoff. Cuscal is an early design partner. Workspaces is available now in Beta.

AHEAD joins Chainguard's Athena coalition to help enterprises turn pre-disclosure Vulnerability Intelligence into verified remediation.

AHEAD joins Chainguard's Athena coalition to help enterprises turn pre-disclosure Vulnerability Intelligence into verified remediation. AHEAD brings enterprise engineering expertise to Athena to help organizations move from discovery to remediation faster. October 08, 2026 09:00 ET | Source: Ahead, Inc. CHICAGO, Oct. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - AHEAD, a global provider of AI-driven cloud, data, infrastructure, and security platforms, today announced it has joined Athena, the Chainguard-led industry coalition for the orchestrated defense of open source software, to help enterprises operationalize pre-disclosure intelligence and hardened fixes for open source vulnerabilities across software delivery and production environments. "AHEAD brings enterprise engineering capabilities to Athena to incorporate hardened fixes into pipelines and production environments and verify they've been..." "Finding a vulnerability faster only changes the outcome if enterprises can act on that intelligence just as quickly," "Chainguard is helping change the way the industry responds to vulnerabilities by moving protection earlier in the lifecycle. AHEAD brings the engineering and..." "We built Athena because orchestrated defense is the only thing that keeps pace with AI-powered attacks. No single defender can cover the entire open source..." Athena is an industry coalition designed to coordinate the discovery, remediation, protection and disclosure of open source vulnerabilities. Athena brings together vulnerability findings from across participating organizations, coordinates hardened fixes ahead of public disclosure and works with partners to help protect affected environments while durable fixes make their way upstream. As AI accelerates both software development and vulnerability discovery, the window between finding a vulnerability and its potential exploitation is shrinking. For enterprises, however, identifying a vulnerability is only the beginning. The fix must still be integrated into software delivery processes, deployed across affected environments and validated in production. The AHEAD and Chainguard partnership is designed to help close that gap. Through Athena, Chainguard provides upstream vulnerability intelligence and hardened, patched images, while AHEAD provides the architecture, implementation and engineering expertise required to integrate those fixes into enterprise CI/CD, software supply chain and production operating models. "Finding a vulnerability faster only changes the outcome if enterprises can act on that intelligence just as quickly," said Josh Perkins, VP of Emerging Technology at AHEAD. "Chainguard is helping change the way the industry responds to vulnerabilities by moving protection earlier in the lifecycle. AHEAD brings the engineering and implementation expertise to help our clients take those protections the rest of the way, into their delivery pipelines, production environments and day-to-day operating models." Moving From Vulnerability Intelligence to Remediation Traditional vulnerability management often depends on publicly disclosed CVEs and the subsequent process of identifying affected assets, prioritizing risk and deploying patches. Athena is designed to move that process earlier by coordinating vulnerability findings and hardened fixes before public disclosure. Chainguard has already validated more than 21,000+ zero day vulnerabilities submitted to Athena. AHEAD extends that model into the enterprise environment, helping customers to: * Assess and Plan Remediation: Identify affected applications, workloads and software supply chain dependencies and establish a remediation plan. * Integrate Hardened Fixes: Incorporate Chainguard's patched images and other remediation outputs into existing CI/CD and software delivery workflows. * Validate Deployment: Confirm that hardened builds are deployed across the environments where vulnerable components are running. * Operationalize Security: Integrate remediation into an organization's broader software supply chain, security and platform-engineering practices. * Verify Outcomes: Establish that identified vulnerabilities have been addressed in production, rather than simply marked as remediated. This approach supports AHEAD's broader AI-enabled software development lifecycle (AI-SDLC) strategy, in which security controls and software supply chain practices become part of how applications are built and operated, not downstream activities performed after development is complete. "We built Athena because orchestrated defense is the only thing that keeps pace with AI-powered attacks. No single defender can cover the entire open source ecosystem alone," said Naveen Sharma, Global Vice President of Partnerships, Chainguard. "AHEAD brings enterprise engineering capabilities to Athena to incorporate hardened fixes into pipelines and production environments and verify they've been addressed. This helps shorten the distance between knowing a vulnerability exists and knowing it has actually been remediated." Security for the AI Era Requires Actionable Intelligence The partnership reflects a broader shift in enterprise security as organizations adopt AI-native development practices and increasingly depend on open source components. Software supply chain security can no longer be treated solely as an audit or compliance exercise; organizations need the ability to identify exposure continuously and move from intelligence to remediation as part of normal software delivery. By combining Chainguard's upstream visibility and hardened fixes with AHEAD's expertise across security, platform engineering, cloud and enterprise transformation, the companies give organizations a path to incorporate pre-disclosure vulnerability intelligence into existing engineering and production processes. The collaboration also supports a more continuous approach to exposure management. Pre-disclosure intelligence can help organizations identify affected environments earlier, while AHEAD's engineering teams can help validate that remediation has been implemented and that production environments no longer contain the affected components. Announcing the Chainguard Compliance Dashboard.

Announcing the Chainguard Compliance Dashboard. Zayn Lohit Senior Product Manager + 1 other Organizations operating under FedRAMP, Department of Defense (DoD) ATO mandates, or other highly regulated sector requirements across financial services, healthcare, and critical infrastructure face a growing compliance burden. Security leaders, ISSOs, and compliance managers must continuously prove that the software deployed in their environments complies with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and FIPS 140-3 cryptography. A generic compliance label on a container image is no longer sufficient for security reviews or audits. Regulators and auditors demand verifiable, digest-level proof. Today, Chainguard is announcing the General Availability (GA) of the Compliance Dashboard in the Chainguard Console. The Compliance Dashboard gives security, compliance, and engineering teams centralized, direct visibility into DISA General Purpose OS SRG scan results and FIPS 140-3 evidence for Chainguard FIPS Containers. Instead of requiring teams to manually run scanners, parse complex output, and assemble evidence packages for auditors, the Compliance Dashboard reflects status updates with every image build, downloadable reports, and exportable receipts down to the exact image digest. Eliminate manual evidence collection for FedRAMP and ATOs. Proving software compliance in regulated environments traditionally requires significant manual overhead: * Evidence collection is slow and fragmented: Security and compliance teams must assemble scan reports, trace cryptographic dependencies, and map certificates across hundreds of running container tags. * Third-party scanners lack context: External vulnerability and compliance scanners inspect software from the outside. They often misinterpret underlying cryptographic boundaries or produce noisy, unverified findings. * Audits require granular provenance: Compliance frameworks require teams to prove compliance for the exact image tag, architecture, and digest running in production, not a generic baseline. The Compliance Dashboard solves this challenge by providing direct, verifiable insight into the underlying compliance substrate of Chainguard Containers. Direct visibility into DISA STIGs and FIPS 140-3 evidence. Because Chainguard owns the compliance substrate behind its images - including the cryptographic modules, image hardening, and remediation processes - the Compliance Dashboard delivers direct, validated compliance status rather than third-party estimations. 1. DISA GPOS SRG Scan Results & XCCDF Export The dashboard surfaces DISA STIG scan results evaluated against the DISA General Purpose Operating System Security Requirements Guide (GPOS SRG) in alignment with its DISA STIG Commitment. Teams can inspect scan details directly in the console or download standard XCCDF (Extensible Configuration Checklist Description Format) reports to attach directly to FedRAMP package submission materials or ATO documentation. 2. Cryptographic and Entropy Provenance For FIPS-enabled images, the dashboard details which validated FIPS modules supply cryptography and entropy for that specific build. Teams can inspect active FIPS 140-3 certificate numbers and entropy-source certificates, establishing clear cryptographic provenance for auditors. 3. Digest-Level Validation Receipts Audits require precise verification. The Compliance Dashboard allows teams to export signed validation receipts tied directly to the exact image tag, architecture, and digest evaluated in their pipeline. How to use the Compliance Dashboard. Using the dashboard fits directly into existing platform engineering and compliance workflows: * Navigate to the Image: Open any container image inside the Chainguard Console. * Select the Compliance Tab: View the overall status, along with the specific tag, architecture, and digest. * Inspect & Export: Review the DISA GPOS SRG compliance status, view associated FIPS 140-3 certificate details, download XCCDF reports, and export validation receipts for security reviews. What's next: Custom Assembly support and organization-wide views. Custom Assembly support is planned as a fast follow. This will allow organizations using Chainguard Custom Assembly to extend the same digest-level compliance visibility, STIG reports, and cryptographic receipts to their customized container images. Additionally, Chainguard will introduce an organization-wide compliance dashboard, providing consolidated visibility across all images and product entitlements. Get started today. The Compliance Dashboard is available today for all Chainguard Console users. To explore compliance details for your images, log in to the Chainguard Console or speak with its public sector and compliance specialists to learn how Chainguard simplifies FedRAMP and ATO readiness.
