About the job
- At least 2 years of previous experience working with children, such as academic or athletic tutoring, camp counseling, or youth volunteering.
- At least 1 year of basketball or youth sports coaching experience; the posting states a required range of 1–5 years.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
- A child abuse clearance and criminal background checks are required.
- Willingness to travel.
- Ability to respond to emergencies that may require running and climbing stairs, and sufficient physical condition to perform the position's responsibilities.
- Basketball skill and a genuine interest in coaching youth are expected.
- Ability to provide constructive criticism and implement the company curriculum.
- Ability to communicate clearly with children, parents, peers, leadership, and the wider community, in writing and orally.
- Ability to use classroom management skills and work collaboratively with fellow Activity Specialists.
- Provide daily basketball instruction and coaching to students ages 4–14 across different ability levels.
- Demonstrate basketball skills and tactics, explain their principles, observe and assess student performance, and provide feedback on progress.
- Supervise groups of students, addressing behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development.
- Ensure the safety of students and team members on and off the basketball court.
- Organize and prepare daily plans in a fun and creative manner.
- Lead activities and create an inclusive, enjoyable environment using effective classroom management.
- Collaborate with fellow Activity Specialists on daily responsibilities and serve as a positive role model to students.
- Exhibit Impact Kids' core values and maintain the company's expected appearance.
