Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering or Health.
  • At least five years of experience in the safety field in an industrial setting.
  • Good communication and language skills.
  • Good organizational, human relations, and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of safety and health codes and regulations, including Mine Safety and Health Administration and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Ability to build consensus, particularly when analyzing and solving employee safety and health problems.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation laws.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct plant safety, health, record-keeping, and housekeeping audits at predetermined intervals; summarize results for the Plant Manager and follow up on remediation when necessary.
  • Administer the company's Safety and Health Program and other plant-related programs in a timely and proactive manner.
  • Attend plant meetings as required and participate in job planning to implement necessary safety factors.
  • Conduct post-accident investigations with the department manager or supervisor to identify root causes of accidents and injuries, and recommend ways to eliminate or reduce exposure potentials.
  • Review newly enacted and proposed regulations, summarize their potential impact on the plant, and propose compliance programs.
  • Develop, administer, and distribute monthly and year-end summary safety reports with year-to-date comparisons to measure overall plant performance.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections conducted by the Mine Safety and Health Administration and review citations.
  • Develop arguments for contesting citations when needed.
  • Administer all training programs conducted at the plant and off-site.
