MSA Safety launches G1 City Edition SCBA with integrated beacon technology to locate firefighters faster

MSA Safety has launched the G1 City Edition SCBA, a self-contained breathing apparatus designed to improve firefighter search and rescue operations. The device integrates LUNAR Beacon Technology into the SCBA power module, enabling connected devices to locate firefighters in distress more quickly during emergencies. The new model features several enhancements based on firefighter feedback. It weighs up to half a pound less than the previous G1 model through a redesigned cylinder retention system and low-profile lumbar pad. Additional improvements include thicker controls for easier glove operation, redesigned shoulder pads, and longer pull straps. The system connects to MSA's FireGrid ecosystem, providing real-time visibility of firefighter location and air-pressure information during operations. The G1 City Edition SCBA meets NFPA 1970 standards for structural and proximity firefighting. MSA Safety, headquartered in Pennsylvania, reported revenues of $1.9 billion in 2025.

MSA Safety unveils A1X vacuum anchor for aircraft maintenance: 35% lighter, broader compatibility

MSA Safety has launched the A1X, a next-generation WinGrip vacuum anchor for aircraft maintenance. The device creates secure, non-invasive anchor points on aircraft surfaces using vacuum suction technology, enabling technicians to work safely on wings and fuselages. The A1X weighs 7kg, 35% lighter than its predecessor, with a reduced diameter of 350mm. Its smaller size expands compatibility to include business jets and private aircraft previously outside WinGrip's scope. The anchor is approved by major manufacturers including Airbus and Boeing. Designed without electronics, the A1X operates safely in fuel vapour environments. Its pneumatic system doubles anchor repositions per cylinder compared to earlier versions. The device is optimised for A and B check operations, where a single technician can deploy and reposition anchor points independently. The A1X will be displayed at MRO Europe in October 2026.
