Requirements
  • An Associate Degree in Nursing is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting is required.
  • A State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required within 6 months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison between patient care units, support departments, organizational leadership, medical staff, and other disciplines to assure safe and effective delivery of care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and clinical guidelines.
  • Support patient care department operating goals and needs by managing off shifts, weekends, and holidays according to established staffing plans.
  • Collaborate with disciplines, providers, and patient families to achieve mutually defined patient care goals.
  • Provide shift oversight for patient care practice and nursing care accountabilities.
  • Assist with transitions of care to ensure uninterrupted quality of care.
  • Step into a Charge Nurse or Primary Registered Nurse role within any clinical department on the hospital campus when required.
  • Analyze the complexity and volume of nursing care required and adjust staffing resources accordingly.
  • Collaborate with department Directors regarding immediate discipline concerns during off-shift and weekend coverage.
  • Consult with department Directors or administrators regarding situations and processes to follow.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and risk management activities.
  • Obtain needed equipment, services, interpreters, specialty call teams, transfer packets, and transportation resources when required.
  • Conduct regular rounds of clinical care units to discuss resource and clinical care needs and implement solutions.
  • Provide oversight and act as a resource for clinical staff.
  • Intervene in patient, family, or provider complaints; support communication and conflict resolution; document events and initiate follow-up.
  • Act as a liaison to Infection Control and help ensure after-hours infection control practices are implemented and followed.
  • Ensure compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, hospital policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe patient care environment.
  • Serve as the risk management liaison and support reporting of patient and visitor incidents, infection control, and security standards.
  • Respond to and coordinate emergency situations after hours and participate in the Emergency Operations Plan and disaster preparedness activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Five years of clinical experience with previous experience in a nursing specialty area such as critical care, emergency room, or obstetrics is preferred.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course and/or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course certification is preferred.
