About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience, with deep specialization in cybersecurity.
  • A proven track record as a technical leader, driving design, influencing architecture, and mentoring senior engineers across organizational boundaries.
  • Expert knowledge in one or more of identity and access management, Zero Trust architecture, secure systems design, applied cryptography, authorization and policy systems, or agentic/AI security.
  • Hands-on experience owning highly available, Tier-1 distributed systems in the critical path of production traffic, including design, operation, and incident response.
  • Strong coding skills in languages such as Go, Python, Java, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience building scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure at large scale.
Responsibilities
  • Define and deliver the multi-year architecture and strategy for Uber’s identity-first Zero Trust stack, translating company-wide goals into organization-, team-, and project-level technical direction across multiple engineering organizations.
  • Design, prototype, and ship secure systems, remaining hands-on in the hardest problems and able to build, review, and debug the architecture established.
  • Set and uphold the technical bar across the security foundation organization through design reviews, architectural standards, and written technical direction; elevate engineers’ performance through mentorship and sponsorship of staff-and-above individual contributors.
  • Own availability, failure-mode, and blast-radius design for identity, policy decision, and certificate services in the critical path of production traffic; turn incident learnings into architectural fixes and govern safe rollouts of enforcement changes.
  • Extend the identity and authorization plane to AI agents as first-class principals, including agent identity and attestation, delegated authorization and token exchange for agent-to-agent and agent-to-service traffic, risk-adaptive control over agent actions, and runtime attribution of each agent action to an accountable human or service owner.
  • Lead cross-organization migrations that replace static secrets, long-lived credentials, and implicit network trust with short-lived, attested identity, and achieve measurable fleet coverage under strict availability constraints.
  • Ensure the identity foundation extends to new business lines, acquisitions, cloud estates, and SaaS and partner boundaries, with a consistent model for non-human identity and least privilege.
  • Partner with infrastructure, AI platform, product engineering, and business teams to integrate security and represent identity and Zero Trust strategy to executive stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience designing or operating Zero Trust architectures at scale, including SPIFFE/SPIRE or equivalent workload identity, service mesh authentication, centralized policy decision services, device trust, and secretless service-to-service authentication.
  • Depth in authentication and authorization protocols, including OAuth 2.0/OIDC, SAML, SCIM, mutual TLS, and PKI/certificate lifecycle management.
  • Experience securing AI/agentic systems, including agent identity, delegated authorization, guardrails, sandbox isolation, or runtime attribution for autonomous workloads.
  • Experience with non-human identity at scale, including service accounts, API keys, cloud IAM hardening, and credential lifecycle across multi-cloud and SaaS estates.
  • Experience leading large-scale credential or authorization migrations across a heterogeneous fleet.
  • Contributions to open standards or the external security community through specifications, talks, publications, or open source.
  • An advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.

About the company

Kalanick's Atoms raises $1.7B led by a16z to expand robotics across KitchenBASE in APAC

Atoms, the robotics and industrial automation group founded by Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, has raised $1.7 billion. Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) led the round, joined by Uber, Bain Capital, Fifth Wall, and other institutional investors. Ben Horowitz, co-founder of a16z, joins the Atoms board. The group works in robotics across food, mining, and transport. Atoms Food includes KitchenBASE, a commercial kitchen network in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Australia. It also develops hardware such as automated bowl-builders and order conveyance robots to cut labour friction in kitchens. KitchenBASE offers licensed, ready-to-fit kitchens on flexible contracts, without the capital outlay of a traditional lease. Uber shares fell 3.43% to $66.70 on October 23, 2026, after The Information reported that Instacart is exploring a sale and had held early talks with Uber and DoorDash. Instacart closed up 9.2%. Bloomberg later reported that Uber walked away, citing one person familiar with the matter. Antitrust scrutiny and Uber's recent deal spree were flagged as hurdles. Uber has offered $14.8 billion for Delivery Hero and agreed on October 6 to buy ezCater for $2.3 billion in cash. Uber's 12.1% operating margin tops rivals, but investors pay less for it than for JB Hunt

Uber Technologies keeps a larger share of sales as operating profit than four rivals in ride-hailing, delivery and freight. Its operating margin reached 12.1% over the past twelve months, up from a loss equal to 1.6% of sales three years ago. Free cash flow topped $10 billion for the first time. Yet investors pay less per dollar of Uber's earnings than for three peers. Uber trades at 15.2 times earnings, against 32.0 for JB Hunt and 99.7 for DoorDash. Uber stock fell 23.6% over twelve months, while JB Hunt rose 68.4%. Revenue growth slowed to 12.2% in the second quarter of 2026, while gross bookings grew 22%. Management blamed part of the gap on a UK business model change. Uber plans to invest $10 billion in autonomous vehicles. It has not yet sized the effect on profit.
