Requirements
- An Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) is required.
- A valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing is required.
Responsibilities
- Deliver quality general and psychiatric nursing care to hospitalized patients receiving treatment for psychiatric or emotional disorders.
- Apply current nursing theory, principles of care, and nursing procedures appropriate to patient age.
- Maintain a safe and clean care environment and contribute to quality improvement.
- Assist in the supervision of Mental Health Technicians.
- Contribute consistently to department operations and communications.
- Take responsibility for the quality of nursing care, including maintaining optimal patient health, counseling, collaborative planning, and restoration of optimal function.
- Act as a patient advocate and assist patients in developing self-advocacy skills.
- Document appropriate patient information in a timely manner.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments of all patients.
- Assess vital signs and administer medications as ordered.
- Evaluate and document patient responses to medication regimens and identify the need to administer as-needed medication.
- Participate in assigned meetings and group therapy sessions.
- Assess the unit milieu to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, family members, and staff.
- Behave consistently with the hospital's mission and objectives.
Desired Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
- At least one year of psychiatric or behavioral health experience is preferred.
