Amperesand, Inc. selects Reno for U.S. Manufacturing facility focused on next-generation energy infrastructure.

Amperesand, Inc. selects Reno for U.S. Manufacturing facility focused on next-generation energy infrastructure. For immediate release. Marketing and Communications Specialist [email protected], 775-343-6811 Reno, Nev. (March 17, 2026) - Amperesand, Inc., an energy technology company developing next-generation solid-state transformer systems, has selected Reno for a new U.S.-based manufacturing facility. The project was recently approved for state tax abatements by the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development. The operation is expected to create more than 60 new jobs over the next two years with an average hourly wage of $55.50, well above the regional average. Amperesand plans to invest tens of millions of dollars in equipment and operational infrastructure within its first two years and is projected to generate more than $13.8 million in new tax revenue over the 10-year abatement period. The GOED Board approved $2,004,004 in performance-based abatements tied to job creation, wage levels, and capital investment. At the center of the expansion is Amperesand's Medium Voltage Solid State Transformer technology. Unlike traditional transformers that passively convert electrical power, solid-state transformers use advanced power electronics and software controls to actively manage energy flow. This allows large industrial users and AI-driven data centers to connect to power sources more quickly, improve overall energy efficiency, and dynamically adapt to changing demand. The technology also supports integration of renewable energy sources and more resilient grid systems, helping modernize infrastructure while reducing energy losses and physical footprint. By establishing manufacturing in Nevada, Amperesand will produce critical power conversion systems designed to support giga-scale industrial operations and AI infrastructure across the United States and globally. "This project reflects both where the economy is going and how energy systems are evolving," said Taylor Adams, President and CEO of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada. "As AI adoption accelerates and electrification expands, demand for efficient, flexible, and more sustainable power infrastructure is increasing. Amperesand is building the systems that make that possible. Their decision to manufacture in Northern Nevada continues to position our region as a frontrunner in the next generation of energy innovation." Brian Dow, CEO of Amperesand, cited Northern Nevada's infrastructure readiness, business climate, and long-term growth trajectory as key factors in the decision. "We were looking for a location that could support advanced manufacturing today and scale with us tomorrow," Dow said. "Northern Nevada offers exceptional advanced manufacturing talent, strong logistics access, available industrial capacity, and a collaborative public-private environment. That combination made Reno the right place to expand our U.S. production footprint." EDAWN represented the project throughout the state approval process, coordinating site selection, workforce data analysis, and infrastructure discussions in preparation for GOED Board approval. Nevada does not offer upfront cash incentives; instead, qualifying companies may receive performance-based tax abatements tied to measurable economic impact. As global energy demand grows and grid systems become more complex, investments like this connect Northern Nevada to the infrastructure powering industrial growth, renewable integration, future-ready jobs, and the expanding AI economy. About EDAWN: The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization established in 1983 funded primarily by private investors with support from public partners, committed to supporting, growing, and maintaining a vibrant and sustainable economy in Northern Nevada. Startups raise $280M to replace century-old transformers with smart grid tech

Three startups modernising electrical transformers have recently raised significant funding rounds. DG Matrix secured $60 million in Series A, Heron Power raised $140 million in Series B, and Amperesand obtained $80 million in November. These companies are developing solid-state transformers that replace traditional copper-and-iron devices with power electronics using silicon-based semiconductors. Unlike conventional transformers, the new technology offers real-time monitoring, bidirectional power flow, and software updates whilst handling multiple tasks in a single device. Data centres represent the initial target market, where solid-state transformers can replace several pieces of equipment whilst occupying 70% less space. The technology arrives as existing transformers age — over 50% of US distribution transformers exceed 35 years old — and demand surges from data centres and EV chargers.

Temasek joins $80m series A in SG startup Amperesand

Temasek joins $80m series A in SG startup Amperesand. Amperesand, a US- and Singapore-based power infrastructure startup, has raised US$80 million in a series A round co-led by Walden Catalyst Ventures and Temasek. New investors include Industry Ventures, Acclimate Ventures, and SG Growth Capital, with existing backers Xora Innovation, Material Impact, TDK Ventures, and Foothill Ventures also joining. The funding will support the deployment of 30MW of its Medium Voltage Solid-State Transformer (MV SST) systems in 2026, aimed at AI data centers and critical power customers. Amperesand plans to expand engineering and manufacturing operations in the US and Singapore. The company was spun out from Nanyang Technological University in 2023 and focuses on power infrastructure for high-density computing and megawatt charging. First commercial units are expected in early 2026, including a project at the Port of Singapore with PSA International. Amperesand expects to have over 100 employees globally by the end of 2025. Food for thought. Amperesand cites standards compliance; independent certifications and pilot data remain limited ahead of 2026 ramp. * Amperesand says its Medium Voltage Solid-State Transformer (MV SST) meets UL (a U.S. product safety certifier), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standards 1. The Series A announcement gives no specific certifications or listings such as UL file numbers 2. * The company finished full-power, overload, and bidirectional testing of its Generation 2 system in 2024 2. It has shared no independent field data to back the 99.999% uptime claim 1. * The PSA Singapore pilot starts in mid-2025 with a one-year Proof of Value phase 3. Results land in 2026, while the funding release lists no signed purchase orders, letters of intent, or type-test results from labs such as KEMA or DEKRA 2. Port electrification contractors can target active grants before Amperesand scales. * EPA's (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) Clean Ports Program awarded nearly $3 billion across 54 grants for zero-emission equipment and infrastructure at U.S. ports, with projects running over the next three to four years 4. This creates immediate openings for electrical contractors and systems integrators. * Washington's $26.5 million Port Electrification Grant funded 11 projects in August 2024 5, while Maine issued a request for proposals (RFP) for port electrification planning in June 2025 6. Vendors of medium-voltage power electronics can bid into these cycles. * Shore power plus megawatt charging projects funded in 2025 will need engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) support 2. That work comes before Amperesand's first commercial units and its 30 MW deployments in 2026, which favors established suppliers of transformers, switchgear, or power distribution gear.
