Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, or a medical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Successful completion of biosafety training, HIPAA training, and bloodborne pathogen training before starting the position.
  • Successful completion of a background check as a final candidate.
  • A drug screen or physical may be required during the post-offer process.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the surgical oncology database.
  • Recruit patients to the biorepository and coordinate the acquisition of time-sensitive samples for patients treated in surgical oncology for malignant and benign lesions.
  • Build and assist with the implementation and coordination of projects.
  • Screen and recruit patients for specimen collection and database entry.
  • Coordinate specimen processing, clinical data collection, and database administration, including Institutional Review Board continuing progress reports.
  • Implement the biobanking repository for endocrine surgery patients with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Obtain patient consent and enter information into the biorepository.
  • Use software to track new and follow-up patients through the care continuum of both programs.
  • Work with the laboratory to run experiments and generate data from tissue samples to identify new and better ways to detect, diagnose, treat, and prevent disease.
  • Organize and coordinate the day-to-day operation of the endocrine surgery biorepository and database.
  • Provide overall program management of the biorepository by screening and consenting patients, collecting and processing specimens, and managing multiple data elements associated with the program.
  • Perform tissue fixation, cell isolation from fresh blood, and in vitro establishment of cell lines.
  • Collect longitudinal data on patient treatment and outcomes during their medical journey.
  • Ensure appropriate patient appointments are scheduled.
  • Develop, align, and operationalize clinical, academic, and research activities supporting Cancer Program goals and OSUCCC-The James initiatives through interdisciplinary collaboration.
