Insurers launch health plans targeting narrower populations.

Insurers launch health plans targeting narrower populations. Insurers are launching new health plans built around narrower populations rather than broad markets, with condition-specific designs, retail partnerships and plans aimed at people in a particular life stage. Centene's Ambetter Health is adding 55 counties and new plans for members with congestive heart failure, while Oscar Health is expanding to 713 counties across 21 states, a 24 percent increase, according to the companies' 2027 marketplace announcements. The common thread is segmentation. With ACA premiums rising at a median proposed 15 percent for 2027 and enrollment down after enhanced subsidies expired, insurers are competing on specific benefit packages for defined groups rather than on price across the whole market. New health plans built around conditions. Ambetter Health's condition-specific Premier plans are the clearest example. For 2027, the insurer is adding congestive heart failure plans in North Carolina and Ohio, where eligible members receive $0 copays for certain heart failure medications, select mental health medications and nicotine replacement therapy, plus up to four $0 cardiologist visits a year. Cholesterol labs, electrocardiograms, cardiac education and nutritional counseling are also covered. The approach is an expansion of an existing line. Ambetter is extending diabetes plans into Louisiana, Mississippi and Indiana, adding to Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma, and adding Georgia to its asthma and COPD plans alongside North Carolina, Oklahoma and Kentucky. "Our condition-specific plans have delivered strong member satisfaction and primary care engagement," Ambetter Health President Katherine Kirby said. Ambetter serves more than 3.5 million members across 27 states and more than 1,700 counties. Plans for a life stage. Oscar Health's new RetireEase product targets a narrower population: people who retired early and face a gap before Medicare eligibility. It will be available in Arizona, Florida, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas, offering set prices for preventive care, labs, physical therapy, heart care and bone-and-joint care, with no-cost generic medications and support for the Medicare transition. The market rationale is demographic. Adults ages 55 to 64 accounted for more than 22 percent of ACA marketplace plan selections in 2026, according to KFF data cited in published reports. Oscar is also expanding HelloMeno, its menopause-focused plan, to 15 states, and extending its co-branded Hy-Vee Health plan into Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas. "The individual market is built for everyone from entrepreneurs launching businesses to people working part-time," CEO Mark Bertolini said. Retail partnerships in Medicare Advantage. SCAN Health Plan is pursuing a different kind of segmentation, through retail and senior living partners. Its 2027 slate includes a co-branded SCAN Costco Medicare Advantage HMO in 17 California counties and two Nevada counties, with allowances for over-the-counter products and health food at Costco stores. SCAN is also partnering with Walmart on co-branded plans and entering Oregon through a partnership with assisted living operator The Springs Living, bringing its footprint to 38 counties across seven states. The insurer added 127,000 members for 2026, roughly 41 percent growth. "Older adults are looking for less complexity, greater choice, value and a simpler healthcare experience," SCAN Group CEO Sachin Jain, MD, said. Narrow networks for employers. Two launches target employer coverage through network design rather than benefit carve-outs. Mass General Brigham Health Plan is introducing a Value HMO for large employers built on a high-value network of Mass General Brigham hospitals, affiliated providers and other Eastern Massachusetts systems, rather than a broad network. Capital Blue Cross and St. Luke's University Health Network launched Valley Advantage, an EPO initially for employers with more than 100 employees in Lehigh and Northampton counties, Pennsylvania, with availability extending to smaller employers in 2027. Published reports also note that Included Health will offer plans to self-insured employers starting Jan. 1, 2028, following its acquisition of Firefly Health, and that MultiCare Health System and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation are entering Medicare Advantage. What it means for payers and employers. Condition-specific plans raise a design question worth watching: a plan that waives cardiology copays attracts people with heart failure, which is sound if risk adjustment compensates adequately and care management reduces admissions, and costly if it does not. Ambetter's willingness to expand the line suggests the economics have worked so far, though the company has published no outcomes data. For employers, the narrow-network launches reflect a familiar trade: lower premiums in exchange for restricted provider choice, which tends to gain traction when cost pressure is high. For benefits leaders, the practical question with any of these new health plans is whether the enhanced benefits match their population's actual conditions, or simply look appealing in a brochure.

Oscar Health Expands individual health insurance to new markets.

Oscar Health Expands individual health insurance to new markets. * Health * Oct 20, 2026 Share: Oscar Health is set to expand its individual health insurance coverage by entering South Carolina and increasing its reach across 140 additional counties, as competitors withdraw from the market. Oscar Health's strategic expansion will increase its presence to 21 states by 2027, a move that offers growth prospects amid the exit of larger firms from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace. Cigna's recent announcement to discontinue its individual health insurance affects approximately 369,000 members in 11 states. Similarly, CVS Health's earlier withdrawal impacted around 1 million members across 17 states. For insurance industry professionals, this reshaping of market dynamics presents new opportunities for competitive positioning and market share capture, particularly as the ACA open enrollment period approaches, running from November 1 to December 15, with coverage commencing January 1, 2027. Oscar's market strategy. Oscar's decision to expand comes as part of a broader initiative to enhance its financial performance and diversify its offerings. The company reported over $1 billion in net income for the first half of the year, indicating significant financial improvement. Under the guidance of CEO Mark Bertolini, Oscar has introduced new products like "RetireEase" to ease retirees' transition into Medicare. Additionally, Oscar is expanding its collaboration with Hy-Vee, a major Midwest grocery and pharmacy chain, illustrating a trend toward more personalized and client-centric health insurance solutions. Implications for insurance professionals. Oscar's expansion into new territories and the development of innovative products like the "RetireEase" plan reflect a strategic response to market shifts and consumer needs. Insurance agents, brokers, and underwriters should note the increased focus on individual health reimbursement arrangements, empowering consumers to purchase insurance through specified platforms. The growing partnership with Hy-Vee also highlights opportunities for grocery and pharmacy chains to deepen their role in healthcare delivery, presenting new distribution channels for individual health coverage. Key developments in Oscar Health's expansion. * State Expansion: Oscar enters South Carolina, reaching 21 states by 2027. * Market Exit of Competitors: Cigna and CVS Health withdraw from individual health segments. * Financial Growth: Reported over $1 billion in net income in the first half. * Innovative Products: Launches "RetireEase" for Medicare transition. * Partnerships: Expands collaboration with Hy-Vee across the Midwest. Under the leadership of Bertolini, the former Aetna CEO, Oscar focuses on technology-driven, user-friendly healthcare solutions, positioning itself as a key player in the evolving individual insurance market landscape. For insurance professionals, understanding these strategic shifts and leveraging new opportunities can be crucial in navigating the competitive marketplace.

Let's Talk Menopause and Oscar Insurance join forces to break the silence around menopause.

Let's Talk Menopause and Oscar Insurance join forces to break the silence around menopause. NEW YORK, NY, October 16, 2026 (EZ Newswire) - For generations, menopause was something women were expected to navigate quietly, often without the information, support, or the medical care they needed to live healthy and fulfilling lives. Today, that conversation is changing. In recognition of World Menopause Day, national nonprofit organization Let's Talk Menopause (LTM) and one of the largest and fastest-growing health insurers dedicated to the individual market, Oscar, are joining forces to help break the stigma surrounding menopause and to help empower millions of American women to advocate for their menopause health. The two-week public service awareness (PSA) campaign, supported by Oscar, aims to normalize conversations about menopause while encouraging women to ask more questions, better understand their symptoms, explore available treatment options, and advocate for the care they deserve. At the heart of the campaign is a simple but powerful message: Get the Facts. Get the Support. Get Talking. "For too long, women have silently navigated the menopause transition, which has left a gap in education, information, and advocacy," said Donna Klassen, co-founder of Let's Talk Menopause. "This campaign encourages women to use their voices to reduce the stigma, elevate the conversation, and ultimately improve education and access to care. We're grateful to Oscar for helping us bring this important message to more women." The multi-faceted, national PSA includes a social media campaign, where women can join the conversation by following Let's Talk Menopause on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn for information and resources on navigating the menopause transition. The campaign will also bring the menopause conversation directly to the streets of New York City, Charlotte, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston with PSA messaging featured on taxis throughout those cities. "Talking openly about menopause can help women recognize what they're experiencing, ask questions, and seek support," says Janet Liang, President of Oscar Insurance. "At Oscar, we believe women deserve clear information about their health benefits and support in accessing care that meets their needs during all phases of life, including menopause. We're proud to support Let's Talk Menopause and this campaign in helping women prioritize their health, understand their options, and advocate for the care they deserve." About Let's Talk Menopause Founded in 2020, Let's Talk Menopause (LTM) is a national nonprofit committed to transforming the conversation around menopause through education, advocacy, and storytelling so women get the information they need and the healthcare they deserve.
