Requirements
  • Minimum of two years of experience in medical coding and billing training, risk adjustment coding or Hierarchical Condition Category coding, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required)
  • HS Diploma or associate degree
  • Must have certification: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist-Professional (CCS-P) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or AHIMA credentials RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, CCS or American Academy of Professional Coders credentials CPC, COC, CIC, CRC; at least one of these is required
  • Consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five years
  • Ability to use a computer to communicate via email and proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related tools
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Must be able to travel as required; travel details coordinated with contract, but travel is allowed
  • Location: Fort Stewart, Georgia (CONUS)
Responsibilities
  • Review outpatient health records and/or Electronic Medical Record for appropriate evaluation and management services
  • Validate provider, vendor, and internal diagnosis coding for accuracy by reviewing and analyzing samples of coding and claims extracts compared to actual medical records
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of statistical reports and records while ensuring confidentiality of financial and medical records
  • Resolve questions, inconsistencies, or missing information
  • Conduct a high level of bill review
  • Resolve daily coding scrubber errors to ensure accurate coding structure for correct billing
  • Resolve claim denials related to coding errors; perform coding charge corrections and rebilling as required for resolution of denials
  • Advise and instruct providers regarding billing and documentation policies, procedures and regulations
  • Interact with provider staff regarding conflicting, ambiguous or non-specific medical documentation; obtain clarification and educate providers regarding changes and measuring compliance
  • Develop preventive measures in response to patterns identified through analysis of claims denial data and HCC reviews; prepare periodic reports for HCC findings, trends and clinical staff identifying corrective measures necessary to resolve denial problems
  • Compile and report HCC statistical data
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with various risk adjustment methodologies and chart audits
  • Strong knowledge of CPT procedure codes and diagnostic ICD-10-CM codes and/or MS-DRG classification codes; knowledge of modifiers
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology is preferred
  • Clinical background and previous chart abstraction experience is preferred
  • Certified coder through AHIMA or AAPC is preferred but not required
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
