Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the assigned subject and level.
  • Demonstrated competency in the assigned academic subject area.
  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license with passenger, air brake, and safety endorsements.
  • Knowledge of the assigned academic subject, curriculum and instruction, coaching techniques and procedures, and University Interscholastic League rules.
  • Ability to instruct students and supervise student athletes.
  • Ability to pass annual and random Department of Transportation physical and drug testing.
  • Ability to perform front and back door school bus evacuations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and first aid techniques on the ground or floor.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and maneuver effectively in a school bus.
  • Quality experience as a coach or participant in the assigned sports.
  • Ability to respond calmly in emergency situations.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and document preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Fulfill assigned coaching responsibilities and duties.
  • Plan and use instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment based on students' learning styles and needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use the results to plan instructional activities.
  • Modify curricula with special education teachers for students with Individualized Education Plans.
  • Determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods with other staff members according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process.
  • Use varied instructional techniques and media to improve student-athletes' abilities in the assigned sport.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions.
  • Establish competition performance criteria and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and regularly.
  • Protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities through necessary precautions.
  • Ensure compliance with University Interscholastic League rules and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements with the athletic director.
  • Evaluate the coaching program continuously and make changes based on findings.
  • Drive buses and other district vehicles to transport students safely when needed.
  • Report mechanical problems with buses or other district vehicles.
  • Follow Frisco ISD policies, Texas school bus driver laws, and Texas commercial driver's license laws.
  • Help students improve study methods and habits.
  • Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume assigned extracurricular activities and sponsor principal-approved outside activities.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Supervise student athletes during assigned athletic competitions and out-of-town trips.
  • Advise students on NCAA academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practices, and trips.
  • Promote sportsmanlike conduct in athletic participation.
  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Present information accurately and clearly.
  • Assist with selecting equipment and instructional materials.
  • Maintain a current inventory of program fixed assets.
  • Oversee cleaning, repair, and storage of campus athletic equipment.
  • Participate in staff development activities.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required physical and computerized reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Supervise assigned assistant coaches.
