Mexican fintech ARQ raises $70M Sequoia-led round to become high-income banking alternative in Brazil

Mexican fintech ARQ, formerly DolarApp, is accelerating its Brazilian expansion following a US$70 million funding round led by Sequoia Capital. The company targets high-income Brazilians who move money internationally, offering global accounts, foreign exchange, and cross-border payments. Unlike Nubank, Sequoia's first Brazilian investment in 2013, which focused on middle- and low-income consumers, ARQ serves a niche market. Operating in Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia, ARQ entered Brazil in 2025, competing with Revolut, Wise, and Nomad. The fintech plans to invest primarily in product development rather than marketing, employing fewer than 200 staff across four countries. ARQ sees credit cards as its biggest growth opportunity, aiming to reduce financing costs by allowing customers to leverage interest rate differentials between markets. The investment marks Sequoia's return to Brazil after seven years, with the firm exploring further fintech opportunities.
