Workplace Catering is a powerful acquisition engine for restaurants new ezcater data reveals. 96% of workplaces tried a new restaurant in 2025, and 62% of employees later ordered from those brands in their personal lives DALLAS & BOSTON [May 5, 2026] - ezCater, the #1 food tech platform for workplaces in the US, today released new data at its 2026 Catering Growth Forum during the Food on Demand Conference. The findings, based on ezCater platform data and survey insights from over 2,300 workplace food stakeholders, show the workplace is a major growth opportunity for restaurants. "Food has evolved from a perk to a strategic lever for workplace productivity and culture," said Cindy Klein Roche, Chief Growth Officer, ezCater. "Employee meal programs are now core to organizations' strategy to bring employees together. For restaurants, that means predictable, high-frequency demand - and a powerful engine for customer acquisition." Additional ezCater survey insights and platform data on the workplace food market include: * Workplaces are increasing their investment in food. 91% of workplaces plan to spend the same or more on food in 2026, up from 82% in 2024. In fact, one in five plan to increase their spending by more than 25% this year. * Employee meal programs are a strong response to rising in-office expectations. 79% of hybrid employees say employer-provided food would make them more likely to stay with a company with an on-site mandate. Consequently, daily or weekly meal programs have spiked 26% year-over-year. Employers frequently cover the cost, with 81% of meals free to employees. * Workplace catering is a powerful customer acquisition engine for restaurants. 96% of workplaces tried a new restaurant in 2025. This exposure leads to long-term loyalty, with 62% of employees who first try a restaurant at work ordering from those same restaurants in their personal lives, and 67% recommending them to family and friends. * Menu design is a make-or-break factor in capturing workplace food orders. More robust, descriptive menus see twice as many bookings on ezcater.com. Top-performing listings feature photos, multiple dietary options, drinks and desserts, and both individual packaging and tray options. In the past year, restaurant brands like Five Guys, Mendocino Farms, and Mission BBQ have joined the ezCater platform to capitalize on the workplace opportunity. Methodology The 2026 Workplace Catering Insights Bundle is based on surveys conducted in Q4 2025 with over 2,300 participants, including 714 workplace catering orderers, 616 restaurant operators, and 1,002 employees. Proprietary ezCater data gathered from millions of transactions across 125,000 restaurant partners was also analyzed. About ezCater ezCater is the #1 food tech platform for workplaces in the US. ezCater, the leading workplace food tech platform in the US, has launched an enterprise integration with Concur Expense to automate receipt management and provide organisation-wide visibility into food expenses. The integration automatically sends food receipts from ezCater orders to Concur Expense, eliminating manual data entry and improving compliance. When orders are refunded or updated, correction receipts are automatically forwarded, keeping expense reports accurate without manual intervention. Organisations can activate the integration company-wide in a single step. ezCater customers already save an average of 20 hours monthly on food management tasks, with 85% reporting time savings on receipts and expense reports. The integration aims to extend these efficiency gains whilst giving finance teams centralised visibility for reconciliation and budgeting.
7-Eleven adding catering to restaurant locations. The company has partnered with ezCater on bulk ordering at its Speedy Café and Laredo Taco Company locations, further supporting its foodservice ambitions. Published April 23, 2026 First published on Dive brief: * 7-Eleven is partnering with food technology platform ezCater to bring catering to its restaurant locations, the company announced on Monday. * Items from its Speedy Café and Laredo Taco Company restaurants as well as most Raise the Roost locations, will be available for catering orders. While select 7-Elevens have offered bulk ordering before, "this is the first time 7-Eleven, Inc. has introduced a scaled, national catering program across our restaurant brands," Chris Switzer, senior director of restaurants, said in an email. * This is the latest move 7-Eleven has made to bolster its foodservice aspirations in North America as it prepares for a potential IPO. Dive insight: 7-Eleven has been adding new food options and limited-time offerings for years, but the addition of catering opens it up to an entirely new cohort of diners - those at meetings, company functions, parties and other events where having everyone order individually would be cumbersome. At Speedy Café, customers can choose from items like pizzas, breakfast sandwiches, lunch boxes and salads. Laredo Taco catering orders can consist of options from its taco bar, as well as breakfast taco boxes and chips and queso. Raise the Roost locations' offerings include chicken tenders, wings, sandwiches and sides. Food has been a central aspect of 7-Eleven's revitalization plan. At the forefront has been a push to build larger, food-focused stores and more restaurants. President and CEO Stephen Dacus also said in April 2025 that the retailer expected to roughly double the number of stores with QSRs from 1,080 at the time to 2,100 by 2030. The company opened 30 restaurants in fiscal 2025. 7-Eleven also sees catering as a way to augment its 7Now delivery arm. 7Now earned nearly $1 billion in fiscal 2025 and is targeting $1.25 billion by 2030, according to an earnings report last year. Company leaders noted in a Q4 fiscal 2025 Q&A that with gas prices soaring, 7Now has been seeing a boost, as consumers skip driving themselves to the store. Editor's note: This story has been updated with the correct capitalization and spacing in ezCater's name and to add comments from 7-Eleven.
